Gold Rate in Chennai Today, August 6, 2026: 24K Gold Slips After Yesterday's Sharp Rally
Authored By HDFC SKY | Published at: Aug 6, 2026 10:13 AM IST
Gold prices in Chennai eased on August 6, giving back a part of the strong gains recorded a day earlier. 24K gold slipped to ₹14,576 per gram, while 22K gold fell to ₹13,361 per gram, as traders booked profits after Wednesday’s rally. Despite today’s decline, prices continue to trade above late-July levels, suggesting the broader sentiment in the bullion market remains constructive.

Chennai, August 6: Gold prices in Chennai took a breather on Thursday after Wednesday’s strong rally, with rates slipping across all major purity categories. The correction wasn’t entirely unexpected. After a sharp rise, markets often see some profit booking as traders lock in gains, and that’s largely what today’s movement reflects.
According to today’s retail rates, 24K gold is priced at ₹14,576 per gram, down ₹130 from the previous session. 22K gold has eased to ₹13,361 per gram, down ₹119, while 18K gold is now trading at ₹11,176 per gram, also lower by ₹119.
While today’s decline may catch the eye, it doesn’t erase the gains made over the past few sessions. Gold is still trading at relatively elevated levels, and the broader trend remains supported by firm global bullion prices and continued safe-haven demand.
Chennai Gold Rate Today
| Purity | Price per gram | Change |
| 24K Gold | ₹14,576 | -₹130 |
| 22K Gold | ₹13,361 | -₹119 |
| 18K Gold | ₹11,176 | -₹119 |
A Pullback, Not a Trend Reversal
One day’s decline rarely tells the whole story.
After Wednesday’s rally, a correction was always a possibility, especially as traders booked profits at higher levels. That’s a common pattern in the bullion market. Prices surge on strong global cues, cool off the next day, and then wait for fresh triggers before deciding their next direction.
For jewellery buyers, today’s dip offers slightly better prices than yesterday. Long-term investors, meanwhile, are likely to focus less on the day’s movement and more on the broader trend, which continues to be influenced by expectations around US interest rates, inflation and the strength of the dollar.

The last ten days have been anything but predictable. Gold has swung between sharp gains and equally sharp corrections, reflecting the uncertainty in global bullion markets. While today’s fall trimmed some of yesterday’s rally, prices remain well above the lows seen in late July. That suggests buyers are still stepping in on dips rather than exiting the market altogether.

Gold has seen plenty of action this month. Prices softened at the start of August, rebounded sharply on August 5 and then eased again today. Even so, the overall decline from the month’s opening level remains marginal, showing that the market has largely held on to its recent gains despite short-term volatility.
Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?
Gold prices don’t move only because of jewellery demand. They are influenced by a combination of global and domestic factors, including international bullion prices, the rupee’s movement against the US dollar, import costs, inflation expectations, central bank policies and geopolitical developments. Any change in these factors can quickly reflect in domestic gold prices.
Conclusion
Gold prices in Chennai edged lower on August 6, with 24K gold slipping to ₹14,576 per gram and 22K gold falling to ₹13,361 per gram. The correction comes just a day after a sharp rally and appears to be driven more by profit booking than a shift in market sentiment. With global economic data and bullion prices continuing to influence the market, investors and buyers alike will be watching closely to see whether gold resumes its upward journey or remains range-bound in the sessions ahead.
