Gold prices in Chennai were almost unchanged on July 24 after a strong run earlier in the week. The 24K gold rate edged up by ₹1 to ₹14,729 per gram, while 22K gold rose to ₹13,501 per gram. Despite Friday’s muted move, both rates remain near their highest levels of the past 10 days following the sharp rally seen since July 20.

Chennai, July 24: Gold prices in Chennai were largely steady on Friday, taking a breather after a sharp rise over the past few sessions. Rates across the three major purity categories increased by just ₹1 per gram, leaving gold near its recent highs.
The 24-karat gold rate stood at ₹14,729 per gram, up ₹1 from ₹14,728 on Thursday. Similarly, 22-karat gold moved up to ₹13,501 per gram from ₹13,500, while 18-karat gold was quoted at ₹11,316 per gram, also higher by ₹1.
Friday’s move may be small, but it comes after a sizeable run-up. The 24K rate has climbed by ₹383 per gram since July 20, while 22K gold has gained ₹351 over the same period.

Gold Takes a Breather After a Sharp Run-Up
The latest price action is markedly quieter than what Chennai buyers saw earlier this week.
Gold began picking up momentum after July 20. The 24K rate rose from ₹14,346 on July 20 to ₹14,422 on July 21 before jumping ₹229 to ₹14,651 on July 22. Another ₹77 increase followed on July 23, taking the rate to ₹14,728.
Against that backdrop, Friday’s ₹1 rise looks more like a pause than another major move. At ₹14,729 per gram, 24K gold is now ₹438 above its July 17 level of ₹14,291.

What Would 10 Grams of 22K Jewellery Cost Today?
For jewellery buyers, the gold rate itself is only the starting point. Making charges and GST can push the final bill noticeably higher.
Using the displayed calculator assumptions of a 12% making charge and 3% GST, the estimated cost of 10 grams of 22K gold works out as follows:
| Component | Amount |
| Gold value | ₹1,35,010 |
| Making charges (12%) | ₹16,201 |
| GST (3%) | ₹4,536 |
| Estimated final amount | ₹1,55,748 |
The actual amount charged by a jeweller can differ depending on the design, making charges, wastage and other applicable costs.
10-Day Gold Price Trend
- July 24: ₹14,729 (+₹1)
- July 23: ₹14,728 (+₹77)
- July 22: ₹14,651 (+₹229)
- July 21: ₹14,422 (+₹76)
- July 20: ₹14,346 (+₹17)
- July 19: ₹14,329 (No change)
- July 18: ₹14,329 (+₹38)
- July 17: ₹14,291 (-₹55)
- July 16: ₹14,346 (-₹32)
- July 15: ₹14,378 (+₹32)
The 10-day trend shows how quickly the tone of the Chennai gold market has changed. Prices weakened through the middle of the month and fell to ₹14,291 on July 17, but the decline did not last. Gold has since climbed in five consecutive sessions, with the biggest single-day move coming on July 22.
Friday’s ₹1 increase therefore breaks from the larger moves seen earlier in the week, but prices are still holding on to almost all of those gains.
Recent Gold Performance
| Particulars | 24K Gold | 22K Gold |
| July 15 Price | ₹14,378 | ₹13,180 |
| July 24 Price | ₹14,729 | ₹13,501 |
| 10-Day High | ₹14,729 | ₹13,501 |
| 10-Day Low | ₹14,291 | ₹13,100 |
| Change since July 15 | +₹351 | +₹321 |
The latest rates put both 24K and 22K gold at their highest levels in the 10-day period shown. For buyers, that means jewellery has become noticeably more expensive compared with the middle of the month. For those already holding gold, however, the recent rebound has restored much of the value lost during the earlier correction.
Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?
Gold prices can move even when local jewellery demand does not change much. International bullion prices are a major driver, while the rupee’s movement against the U.S. dollar can also affect what Indian buyers ultimately pay.
Import costs, interest-rate expectations, inflation, central bank decisions and geopolitical developments can all feed into domestic rates. Because several of these factors move at the same time, gold can sometimes record sharp changes from one session to the next.
Conclusion
Gold prices in Chennai were nearly flat on July 24, with 24K gold edging up to ₹14,729 per gram and 22K gold reaching ₹13,501 per gram. The ₹1 increase was tiny compared with the gains recorded earlier in the week, but it left both rates at their highest levels in the latest 10-day period.
The bigger story remains the rebound from July 17. With 24K gold up ₹438 per gram from that recent low, buyers are now facing considerably higher prices than they were a week ago. The next few sessions will show whether the rally has more room to run or whether gold begins consolidating after its recent surge.
