Chennai, July 29: Gold prices in Chennai were almost unchanged on Wednesday, with bullion rates edging lower by just ₹1 across major purity categories. The muted move follows Tuesday’s steep correction and points to a pause in the recent bout of volatility.

According to the latest retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹14,415 per gram, down ₹1 from the previous session. The 22-karat rate has slipped to ₹13,214 per gram, while 18-karat gold is trading at ₹11,029 per gram, also lower by ₹1.

Although today’s movement is negligible, gold prices have witnessed sharp swings over the past week. After rallying strongly on July 22, prices corrected, rebounded briefly and then fell sharply again before stabilising in today’s session.

22K Gold ₹13,214 -₹1

Gold Finds Some Stability After Recent Volatility

The latest decline comes after a turbulent run for bullion prices.

The 24K gold rate climbed to ₹14,651 per gram on July 22 following a ₹229 jump before slipping over the next two sessions. It recovered to ₹14,586 on July 27 but dropped sharply to ₹14,416 on July 28.

Wednesday’s ₹1 decline leaves the 24K rate at ₹14,415 per gram, indicating that prices have largely steadied after Tuesday’s correction rather than continuing another steep fall.

Despite the recent corrections, gold prices are still trading modestly above where they stood 10 days ago. However, the gap between the recent high and current levels shows that much of last week’s rally has faded.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold prices in Chennai are influenced by a mix of global and domestic factors. International bullion prices, fluctuations in the rupee against the US dollar, import costs and investor demand all play a role in determining daily rates.

Expectations around inflation, interest rates, central bank policies and geopolitical developments can also affect gold prices. These factors often cause prices to change even when local jewellery demand remains steady.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Chennai were largely stable on July 29, with 24K gold slipping by just ₹1 to ₹14,415 per gram and 22K gold easing to ₹13,214. After several sessions marked by sharp gains and declines, today’s muted move suggests that bullion prices may be settling down.

Even so, the market remains sensitive to global cues, and buyers are likely to keep a close watch on international bullion prices and currency movements for the next direction in gold.
