Gold prices in Chennai remained largely unchanged on July 30, with bullion rates extending their subdued trend after the recent correction. The 24K gold rate slipped marginally to ₹14,350 per gram, while 22K gold edged down to ₹13,154 per gram, indicating that the market is searching for fresh direction.

Chennai, July 30: Gold prices in Chennai were little changed on Thursday, with bullion extending its subdued run after the sharp swings seen over the past week. The latest move was limited to a ₹1 decline across all major purity categories, suggesting the market is stabilising after a volatile stretch.
The latest retail rates place 24-karat gold at ₹14,350 per gram, down ₹1 from Wednesday. 22-karat gold has eased to ₹13,154 per gram, while 18-karat gold is priced at ₹10,969 per gram, also lower by ₹1.
After the steep correction witnessed earlier this week, today’s movement was negligible. While prices remain below last week’s highs, the pace of selling has slowed considerably.

Gold Prices Pause After a Volatile Week
Gold has witnessed sharp swings over the past several sessions. After climbing to ₹14,651 per gram on July 22, prices came under pressure, with a steep correction on July 24 followed by another round of selling earlier this week.
Thursday’s ₹1 decline is the smallest move recorded in recent days and suggests that the market may be entering a consolidation phase after the recent volatility. Even so, 24K gold remains around ₹301 below last week’s high.

10-Day Gold Price Trend
- July 30: ₹14,350 (-₹1)
- July 29: ₹14,351 (-₹66)
- July 28: ₹14,416 (-₹170)
- July 27: ₹14,586 (+₹77)

The last 10 trading sessions have highlighted just how quickly sentiment can change in the bullion market. After a strong rally lifted prices during the third week of July, gold surrendered much of those gains in the following sessions. The latest ₹1 decline points to a calmer market, although prices remain well below last week’s peak.
Recent Gold Price Performance
| Particulars | 24K Gold | 22K Gold |
| July 21 Price | ₹14,422 | ₹13,220 |
| Current Price | ₹14,350 | ₹13,154 |
| Highest | ₹14,728 (July 23) | ₹13,500 (July 23) |
| Lowest | ₹14,350 (July 30) | ₹13,154 (July 30) |
| Change since July 21 | -₹72 | -₹66 |
The broader trend has turned slightly weaker over the past 10 days. Although prices recovered briefly after last week’s correction, that rebound proved short-lived, leaving gold at its lowest level in more than a week.
Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?
Gold prices are influenced by a combination of international and domestic factors. Global bullion rates, movements in the rupee against the U.S. dollar, import costs and inflation expectations all have a direct impact on domestic gold prices.
Market sentiment is also shaped by interest-rate expectations, central bank purchases and geopolitical developments. On top of these, local taxes and jeweller-specific making charges determine the final amount consumers pay.
Conclusion
Gold prices in Chennai remained largely steady on July 30, with 24K gold easing by just ₹1 to ₹14,350 per gram and 22K gold slipping to ₹13,154 per gram. The marginal decline follows a volatile week in which bullion gave up much of its earlier gains.
With prices stabilising after recent swings, jewellery buyers may continue to monitor the market for better entry points, while investors are likely to watch global bullion trends and currency movements for fresh direction.
