Chennai, July 31: Gold prices in Chennai rose for the second straight session on Friday, building on Thursday’s rebound after a sharp correction earlier this week. Retail rates increased across all major purity categories, although bullion still trades below the highs seen during the third week of July.

According to the latest retail rates, 24-karat gold climbed ₹27 to ₹14,460 per gram. 22-karat gold gained ₹25 to ₹13,255 per gram, while 18-karat gold also advanced ₹25, taking its price to ₹11,070 per gram.

The latest uptick suggests buying interest has returned after recent weakness, though prices remain well below the peak recorded earlier this month.

24K Gold ₹14,460 +₹27
22K Gold ₹13,255 +₹25

Gold Recovers, But Remains Below Recent Highs

Gold has staged a modest comeback over the past two sessions after falling sharply between July 28 and July 29. Thursday’s recovery of ₹82 per gram was followed by another ₹27 increase on Friday, helping prices claw back part of the earlier losses.

Even after the rebound, 24K gold is still around ₹191 per gram below the July 22 level of ₹14,651, showing that the recent recovery has only offset part of the decline.

The past 10 sessions have been anything but one-sided. After a steep slide at the start of the week, gold has bounced back over the last two days. Even so, prices haven’t fully recovered the losses from the recent correction.

Recent Gold Price Performance

Particulars 24K Gold 22K Gold
July 22 Price ₹14,651 ₹13,430
Current Price ₹14,460 ₹13,255
Highest ₹14,728 (July 23) ₹13,500 (July 23)
Lowest ₹14,351 (July 29) ₹13,155 (July 29)
Change since July 22 -₹191 -₹175

While the recovery has improved sentiment, gold is still trading below the levels seen a week ago. Whether prices continue to recover will depend on global bullion trends, movements in the rupee and expectations around interest rates.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold prices don’t move only because of jewellery demand. They react to a combination of international bullion prices, the rupee’s exchange rate against the U.S. dollar, import costs, inflation expectations and central bank policy decisions.

Global uncertainties, investor demand for safe-haven assets and domestic taxes also influence the retail prices quoted by jewellers.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Chennai extended their recovery on Friday, with 24K gold rising ₹27 to ₹14,460 per gram and 22K gold advancing to ₹13,255 per gram. The gains come after a sharp correction earlier this week, although prices remain below the highs seen in late July.

For now, the rebound suggests the recent selling pressure has eased, but traders will continue watching global bullion prices and currency movements for the next major trigger.
