Kolkata, July 20: Gold prices opened the week on a slightly stronger note in Kolkata, snapping the flat trend seen over the weekend. While the gains were modest, they suggest that buying interest has picked up after prices spent the last few sessions moving in a tight range.
According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is selling at ₹14,346 per gram, up ₹17 from Sunday. 22-karat gold has risen by ₹15 to ₹13,150 per gram, while 18-karat gold now costs ₹10,759 per gram, an increase of ₹12.
The recovery is relatively small, but it comes after several sessions of muted price action. Gold remains below the highs seen earlier this month, giving jewellery buyers a better entry point than they had during the first half of July.

Gold Prices Show Signs of Stability After Last Week’s Correction
Gold has been moving in a much narrower range over the past few days compared with the sharp swings seen earlier this month.
After remaining unchanged on Sunday, today’s uptick indicates that buyers are gradually stepping back into the market. While the gains aren’t large enough to signal a fresh rally, they do suggest that selling pressure has eased for now.
Even after today’s rise, prices remain comfortably below July’s peak, which could continue to support jewellery demand in the coming days.

- July 19: ₹14,329 (No change)
- July 18: ₹14,329 (+₹76)
- July 17: ₹14,253 (-₹76)

The last ten days tell the story of a market that’s gradually calming down. After the sharp correction witnessed in the middle of the month, daily movements have become much smaller. Monday’s gain is another sign that gold is stabilising, although prices are still moving well below the highs recorded earlier in July.
July Performance So Far
| Particulars | 24K Gold | 22K Gold |
| July 1 Price | ₹14,433 | ₹13,230 |
| July 20 Price | ₹14,346 | ₹13,150 |
| Highest in July | ₹14,433 (July 12) | ₹13,230 (July 12) |
| Lowest in July | ₹14,253 (July 17) | ₹13,065 (July 17) |
| Monthly Trend | -0.60% | -0.60% |
Although gold is still trading below where it started the month, most of the earlier correction appears to have slowed. The market has spent the past few sessions consolidating, with neither buyers nor sellers taking complete control. That usually reflects a period of caution before the next meaningful move.
Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?
Gold prices are influenced by several global and domestic factors, including international bullion prices, movements in the rupee against the US dollar, import duties, inflation expectations, central bank decisions and geopolitical developments. Since these factors change regularly, retail gold prices are revised every day across Indian cities.
Conclusion
Gold prices in Kolkata edged higher on July 20, with 24K gold rising to ₹14,346 per gram after a quiet weekend. While the increase was modest, it suggests buyers are slowly returning after last week’s correction. With prices still below July’s highs, many jewellery buyers may see the current levels as a more attractive opportunity. The next direction for gold will likely depend on global bullion prices, currency movements and broader economic developments.
