Kolkata, August 10: Gold prices in Kolkata moved lower on Monday, with rates falling across all three major purity categories. The decline comes after gold held steady on Sunday and follows a strong rally that pushed prices to their highest levels of the month.

According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹15,197 per gram, down ₹38 from the previous session. 22-karat gold has fallen ₹35 to ₹13,930 per gram, while 18-karat gold is trading at ₹11,398 per gram, lower by ₹28.

Today’s decline takes some heat out of the recent rally, but gold remains close to its monthly high. The metal had reached ₹15,235 per gram on August 8 and August 9 before easing today.

Kolkata Gold Rate Today

24K Gold ₹15,197 -₹38
22K Gold ₹13,930 -₹35
18K Gold ₹11,398 -₹28

Gold Pulls Back After a Strong Rally

Gold’s August journey has been fairly eventful.

The month started with 24K gold at ₹14,422 per gram. Prices slipped to ₹14,400 on August 4, but the weakness was short-lived. Gold then rallied sharply over the next few sessions, crossing ₹15,000 and reaching ₹15,235 per gram.

Today’s ₹38 decline is relatively small compared with those gains.

In fact, 24K gold is still ₹775 per gram higher than its August 1 level. So while buyers are getting a slightly lower entry price today, gold remains considerably more expensive than it was at the start of the month.

What Would 10 Grams of 22K Jewellery Cost Today?

The gold rate displayed above isn’t the final amount you’ll pay at a jewellery store. Making charges and GST are added to the value of the metal.

Using today’s 22K rate of ₹13,930 per gram, and assuming 12% making charges and 3% GST, here’s an estimated calculation:

Component Amount
Gold value ₹1,39,300
Making charges (12%) ₹16,716
GST (3%) ₹4,680
Estimated final amount ₹1,60,696

The final bill can vary depending on the jeweller, design, wastage charges and applicable making charges.

The 10-day trend shows a clear change in momentum. Gold started August on a relatively quiet note before dipping on August 4. It then turned sharply higher, with 24K gold gaining ₹835 per gram between August 4 and August 8.

After holding at ₹15,235 for two sessions, prices have now eased slightly. For now, the correction looks modest against the scale of the recent rally.

August Performance So Far

Gold has gained more than 5% in Kolkata since the beginning of August, with most of the increase coming during the strong rally in the middle of the week.

Today’s fall hasn’t changed that bigger picture. Gold remains close to its monthly high, although another round of profit-taking could put some pressure on prices in the coming sessions.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold rates are affected by a combination of global and domestic factors. International bullion prices, the Indian rupee’s movement against the US dollar, inflation expectations, interest-rate decisions, central bank buying and geopolitical developments can all influence domestic gold prices.

As these factors change, retail gold rates can move even when local jewellery demand remains relatively stable.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Kolkata declined on Monday, with 24K gold falling ₹38 to ₹15,197 per gram and 22K gold dropping ₹35 to ₹13,930 per gram. 18K gold also slipped to ₹11,398 per gram.

Despite today’s correction, gold remains 5.37% above its August 1 level and close to its monthly peak of ₹15,235. After last week’s sharp rally, the latest decline looks more like a breather than a major reversal.

For buyers, the next few sessions will show whether gold can regain its recent high or spends more time consolidating around current levels.
