Kolkata, July 16: Gold prices edged lower in Kolkata on Thursday, giving back part of the gains recorded a day earlier. The market had shown signs of stabilising after Wednesday’s rebound, but today’s decline suggests buyers are still taking a cautious approach.

According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is selling at ₹14,329 per gram, down ₹28 from Wednesday. 22-karat gold has fallen by ₹25 to ₹13,135 per gram, while 18-karat gold is now priced at ₹10,747 per gram, lower by ₹20.

Although the decline is relatively modest, it reflects the stop-start pattern that has dominated the gold market over the past week. Prices have been moving up one day and softening the next, without establishing a clear trend.

Kolkata Gold Rate Today

Purity Price per gram Change
24K Gold ₹14,329 -₹28
22K Gold ₹13,135 -₹25
18K Gold ₹10,747 -₹20

Gold Struggles to Build on Recent Gains

The first half of July has been anything but predictable for gold buyers.

After climbing to a monthly high during the opening week, prices corrected sharply before staging a brief recovery on Wednesday. That bounce, however, proved short-lived as gold slipped again in today’s session.

Despite the decline, the broader picture hasn’t changed much. Gold is still trading well below its July peak, meaning buyers continue to enjoy better prices than they did at the beginning of the month.

At the same time, today’s fall wasn’t large enough to erase the gains seen over the past few sessions completely. Instead, it highlights a market that’s still searching for direction.

Why Do Gold Prices Chaxnge Every Day?

Gold prices are influenced by international bullion prices, movements in the rupee against the US dollar, import duties, inflation expectations, central bank policies and geopolitical developments. Since these factors change frequently, retail gold rates are revised daily across Indian cities.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Kolkata slipped on July 16, with 24K gold falling to ₹14,329 per gram and 22K gold easing to ₹13,135 per gram. While the market gave up part of the previous session’s gains, prices remain comfortably below the highs seen earlier this month, offering buyers a relatively better opportunity. Investors will continue watching global bullion trends to see whether gold can regain momentum in the coming sessions.
