Mumbai, August 11: Gold prices in Mumbai bounced back sharply on Tuesday after falling in the previous session. The biggest move came in 24K gold, which jumped ₹316 to ₹15,513 per gram.

The rise was broad-based. 22K gold increased ₹290 to ₹14,220 per gram, while 18K gold climbed ₹237 to ₹11,635 per gram.

Yesterday’s dip now looks relatively small compared with today’s move. On August 10, 24K gold had slipped ₹38 to ₹15,197 per gram. Today’s rally has not only recovered that loss but also taken the rate above the ₹15,235 level seen on August 8 and August 9.

22K ₹14,220 +₹290
18K ₹11,635 +₹237

Gold Has Moved Quite a Bit in Just 10 Days

The recent trend has been pretty clear: gold has been moving higher, although not in a straight line.

At the start of the period shown, on August 2, 24K gold was priced at ₹14,422 per gram. It crossed ₹15,000 on August 6 and touched ₹15,235 over the following two sessions.

There was a small setback yesterday, but today’s ₹316 jump has pushed the rate to ₹15,513, the highest level in the 10-day data available.

For someone buying jewellery, that kind of move matters. At today’s rate, the gold component alone for 10 grams of 22K gold comes to ₹1,42,200, before making charges and GST.

What 10 Grams of 22K Gold Costs in Mumbai

The actual jewellery bill will be higher than the quoted gold rate because making charges and GST are added to the base value.

Using the calculator shown on the page, with 12% making charges and 3% GST, the estimated cost for 10 grams works out to:

Cost Component Amount
Gold value ₹1,42,200
Making charges ₹17,064
GST ₹4,778
Total ₹1,64,042

So, a 10-gram 22K jewellery purchase could come to around ₹1.64 lakh under these assumptions. Actual bills can differ depending on the jeweller, design and making charges.

What Today’s Gold Move Means for Buyers

Today’s jump doesn’t necessarily mean buyers have to rush into the market. If you’re purchasing jewellery, the bigger number to watch is the final bill, not just the headline gold rate.

Making charges, GST and the design of the jewellery can make a noticeable difference to the amount you eventually pay.

For investors, meanwhile, the daily Mumbai jewellery rate is only one part of the picture. Gold prices can move with international bullion prices, currency movements and broader market expectations, so today’s sharp rise could be followed by another move in either direction.

Bottom Line

Mumbai’s gold market had a strong session on August 11. 24K gold jumped ₹316 to ₹15,513 per gram, while 22K and 18K gold also posted sizeable gains.

More importantly, today’s move has taken 24K gold to a new 10-day high after the brief decline seen yesterday.

For jewellery buyers, the takeaway is simple: gold is considerably more expensive than it was at the beginning of August. Someone buying 10 grams of 22K gold is already looking at a base gold value of ₹1.42 lakh, and the final jewellery bill will be higher once making charges and GST are added.
