Mumbai, August 6: Gold prices strengthened further in Mumbai on Thursday, building on Wednesday’s rally as buyers continued to return to the bullion market. The latest increase pushed 24-karat gold close to the ₹15,000-per-gram mark, reflecting a steady recovery after the brief softness witnessed at the beginning of August.
According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹14,973 per gram, up ₹289 from the previous session. 22-karat gold has increased by ₹265 to ₹13,725 per gram, while 18-karat gold is trading at ₹11,230 per gram, higher by ₹217.
The consecutive gains indicate that the recent correction has largely faded. After a few quiet sessions where prices barely moved, gold has bounced back strongly, giving both investors and jewellery buyers fresh cues as the market regains momentum.

| 24K Gold | ₹14,973 | +₹289 |

Gold Reclaims Lost Ground After Early-August Pause
The first few trading sessions of August offered little excitement, with gold prices moving within a narrow range and even slipping briefly. That phase now appears to be over.
Over the last two sessions, bullion has staged a convincing recovery, adding nearly ₹550 per gram in 24K gold. Thursday’s rally has pushed prices back to levels last seen before the correction, leaving 24K gold just ₹27 short of the ₹15,000 mark.
For buyers who were waiting for a deeper pullback, the latest rebound suggests that the opportunity to buy at lower levels may be narrowing. At the same time, investors remain focused on international bullion prices and currency movements, which continue to shape domestic gold rates.

The past 10 trading sessions highlight how quickly sentiment can change in the bullion market. Gold spent several days moving sideways after the month began before buyers stepped in over the last two sessions. Those gains have more than offset the earlier weakness, lifting prices to their highest level in the current 10-day period and reinforcing the market’s positive momentum.

| August 1 Price | ₹14,422 | ₹13,220 |
| August 6 Price | ₹14,973 | ₹13,725 |

| Monthly Trend | +3.82% | +3.82% |
August has unfolded in two distinct phases for the Mumbai bullion market. Prices softened briefly during the opening days of the month, raising hopes of a deeper correction. However, that weakness proved short-lived as gold quickly regained momentum. With rates now back at fresh monthly highs, the overall trend has once again turned firmly positive.
Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?
Gold prices are influenced by several domestic and international factors rather than jewellery demand alone.
Movements in global bullion prices, fluctuations in the Indian rupee against the US dollar, import duties, inflation expectations, central bank policies and geopolitical developments all contribute to daily price changes. As these factors evolve, jewellers revise retail rates accordingly, leading to the day-to-day fluctuations seen across the country.

Conclusion
Gold prices in Mumbai extended their recovery on Thursday, with 24K gold climbing to ₹14,973 per gram and 22K gold rising to ₹13,725 per gram. The second straight day of gains has erased much of the weakness seen at the start of August and brought bullion within touching distance of the ₹15,000 mark. Whether the rally continues will depend on global gold prices, currency movements and broader macroeconomic developments in the days ahead.
