Mumbai, August 7: Gold prices in Mumbai continued to rise on Friday, though the gains were far smaller than those seen earlier this week. Retail rates moved higher across all purity categories, with 24-karat gold inching closer to the ₹15,000-per-gram mark, extending the recovery that began after Monday’s decline.

According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹14,989 per gram, up ₹16 from Thursday. 22-karat gold has increased by ₹15 to ₹13,740 per gram, while 18-karat gold is trading at ₹11,242 per gram, higher by ₹12.

While today’s increase is modest, it marks the third straight session of gains. After the strong rally over the past two days, gold appears to be settling at higher levels rather than giving back its recent advance.

Gold’s Rally Loses Pace, But Not Direction

The momentum has clearly slowed, but gold is still moving in one direction.

After surging by nearly ₹600 per gram over the previous two trading sessions, Friday’s increase was comparatively small. Even so, the market has shown little sign of profit booking, with prices comfortably holding near this month’s highs.

For buyers who were waiting for another correction, that hasn’t happened yet. Instead, gold has remained resilient, suggesting demand continues to support prices despite the recent run-up.

The past 10 trading sessions reflect a clear turnaround in sentiment. Gold spent the opening days of August moving in a narrow range before rebounding sharply on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday’s smaller increase suggests the rally is cooling rather than ending, with prices continuing to trade close to their highest levels of the month.

Gold has staged a strong comeback after a weak start to August. The correction seen during the first half of the week proved short-lived, with prices recovering steadily over the last three sessions. Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold prices are influenced by several global and domestic factors. International bullion prices, movements in the rupee against the US dollar, inflation expectations, import duties, central bank policies and geopolitical developments all play a role in determining daily rates.

As these factors change, gold prices are revised accordingly, even if local jewellery demand remains largely unchanged.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Mumbai continued to edge higher on Friday, with 24K gold rising to ₹14,989 per gram and 22K gold reaching ₹13,740 per gram. While the pace of gains has slowed after this week’s strong rally, prices remain close to their monthly highs, suggesting the market is still holding on to its recent momentum. The next move will depend on global bullion trends, currency movements and broader economic developments.
