New Delhi, Oct 13: Gold prices fell on Tuesday. According to Goodreturns.in, 24-carat (99.9% purity) gold is trading at Rs 14,929 per gram in most cities. The price of 22-carat (91.6% purity) gold is Rs 13,685 per gram, while 18-carat gold is selling at Rs 11,197 per gram.
On Monday, the prices of 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold were Rs 15,098, Rs 13,840 and Rs 11,324 per gram, respectively. This represents declines of Rs 169, Rs 155 and Rs 127 per gram, respectively, or around 1.12% across all three categories.
Ten grams of gold would cost Rs 1,49,290 for 24-carat, Rs 1,36,850 for 22-carat and Rs 1,11,970 for 18-carat gold in the Mumbai cluster of cities. Buyers will therefore pay Rs 1,690, Rs 1,550 and Rs 1,270 less, respectively, than Monday’s rates.
The price of 24-carat gold is Rs 1,420 lower than its Friday price of Rs 1,50,710. However, it is still Rs 110 higher than last Monday’s price of Rs 1,49,180.
Domestic gold prices are influenced by international gold prices and the USD-INR exchange rate. As of 10:11 am, the October 28 USD-INR futures contract on the NSE was trading at Rs 95.4500, lower than the Rs 95.9200 recorded on Monday morning. A stronger rupee can make gold imports cheaper, which could be one of the reasons behind the decline in domestic gold prices.
Gold rates across various cities remain similar in terms of their relative differences from the previous day. Delhi continues to be the costliest city, with 24-carat gold priced at Rs 14,944 per gram. This is Rs 15 more than the rate of Rs 14,929 per gram in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune. The price difference between Delhi and these cities was also Rs 15 on Monday.
A similar trend can be seen in 22-carat and 18-carat gold prices, with Delhi charging Rs. 15 more per gram than the Mumbai cluster. Vadodara and Ahmedabad have 24-carat prices of Rs. 14,934 per gram, which is Rs. 5 higher than the Mumbai cluster. In Chennai, 18-carat gold is priced at Rs. 11,240 per gram, Rs. 43 higher than the Mumbai cluster.

Every row in the three tables shows a fall. In 24K and 22K gold, all ten cities saw the same decline of ₹1,690 and ₹1,550 per 10 grams, respectively, while 18K gold fell by ₹1,270 in nine cities and ₹1,300 in Chennai.
Keep in mind that these are bullion rates. Jewellery will cost more than these rates because you will have to pay making charges, wastage charges and 3% GST on the value of the gold. GST alone adds about ₹4,479 on a 10-gram purchase of 24K gold at today’s rate. If you want to invest in gold but do not want to worry about storing it or its purity, you can consider gold ETFs. These ETFs track gold prices and do not require you to physically own the metal.
With the festive season approaching and Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still to come, buyers will be watching whether the rate keeps falling or finds a floor. At ₹14,929 per gram, 50 grams of 24K gold costs ₹7,46,450 before making charges and GST. A 22K chain weighing 20 grams would cost ₹2,73,700 in gold value alone at ₹13,685 a gram, which is ₹3,100 less than on Monday.
