Silver remains the cheaper way into precious metals. At ₹235 per gram, it costs a fraction of 24-carat gold at ₹14,929 per gram, which makes gold about 64 times more expensive than silver.
Buyers in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala will pay an additional ₹100 per 10 grams over the national rate, up from ₹50 on Monday.
The above silver prices are for the metal only. If you are looking to purchase silver jewellery, you will have to pay more, because it attracts making charges and 3% GST. On a 10 gram purchase at ₹2,350, GST alone comes to ₹70.50.
With Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still to come, silver coins, idols and utensils are likely to draw buyers, and many will be watching whether the rate holds at ₹2,350 per 10 grams or moves again.
