Mumbai, July 22: Gold prices rose further in India on Wednesday. The national average gold rate for 24 karat is Rs 1,46,510, 22 karat Rs 1,34,300 and 18 karat Rs 1,09,880 per 10 grams.
Taking cues from continued strength in global rates, Wednesday’s domestic price rise marks gains of Rs 3,040, Rs 2,790 and Rs 2,280 for 24 karat, 22 karat and 18 karat gold respectively, compared to Tuesday’s national average of Rs 1,43,470, Rs 1,31,510 and Rs 1,07,600 per 10 grams. The sharp single-day jump comes even as bullion had largely held a narrow band through July.
Most traders attributed Wednesday’s rise to a mix of global rate trends, rupee-dollar movement and safe-haven demand amid ongoing Middle East tensions, keeping gold prices near record highs as the week progresses. Spot gold prices on global exchanges too climbed overnight, boosted by a softer dollar index and fresh buying interest from institutions, analysts said.
For context, though daily fluctuations have been sharp in recent sessions, gold prices had broadly been range-bound through most of July before Wednesday’s move, trading in a band of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 even as they hovered around record territory.

As always, we recommend that buyers check live gold rates through the day and confirm the final billed price with your jeweller, inclusive of making charges and GST, before any sale or purchase.
“Gold has broken out of its July range,” said bullion dealers, adding that the sharp gain reflects fresh safe-haven buying rather than a one-off blip. Physical demand at jewellery stores has stayed robust on account of the wedding season, and is likely to remain firm through the week. Analysts say the US Fed’s rate signal, the dollar index and escalation in tensions between Iran and the US will be important to watch, along with the domestic import duty structure and underlying supply-demand.

Before purchasing gold, remember to ask your jeweller about the additional costs that go into your final billed amount. On gold purchases upwards of 2 grams, consumers will have to pay an applicable 3 per cent GST. Most jewellers also charge a making cost between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 for simple jewellery designs, which goes up to Rs 2,000 to Rs 15,000 for complicated jewellery.
