New Delhi, Oct 5: Gold in India opened the week lower, with 24 karat gold (99.9% purity) at ₹14,918 per gram in most cities, 22 karat (91.6% purity) at ₹13,675 per gram and 18 karat at ₹11,189 per gram, according to Goodreturns.in, which tracks daily dealer-forum rates across major cities. The 24K rate is down ₹110 per gram from Thursday’s level, a fall of about 0.73 per cent, or ₹1,100 per 10 grams. The 22K rate eased ₹101 per gram, while 18K slipped ₹82 per gram in most cities, extending the pullback seen through the back half of last week.
Gold prices in India track international bullion rates and the dollar-rupee exchange rate, so a decline at the start of the week typically reflects how global cues moved since the last session. The broader equity market was also stirring: the Nifty 50 was trading around 22,505 in late-morning deals, up about 0.37 per cent, while the USDINR October futures contract was quoted near ₹96.47.
Nine of the ten major cities tracked fell by the same margin in each purity, with Delhi again the city carrying the highest 24K rate at ₹14,933 per gram, a ₹15 premium over the Mumbai-Kolkata-Bangalore-Hyderabad-Kerala-Pune cluster at ₹14,918. Vadodara and Ahmedabad held their smaller ₹5 per gram premium at ₹14,923. Chennai’s 18K rate continued to carry its own distinct premium over the rest of the country, at ₹11,235 per gram against ₹11,189 in the Mumbai cluster, a gap that has persisted through the week even as the national level has moved.

City-wise premiums of Rs 15 per gram for 24K and 22K gold in Delhi, Rs 5 per gram in Vadodara and Ahmedabad, and a separate premium on 18K gold in Chennai remained constant throughout the fall. This means there was no change in how cities were priced against each other during the decline; the fall was purely at the national level.
Keep in mind that these are bullion rates. Jewellery will cost more than these rates because you will have to pay making charges, wastage charges and 3% GST on the value of the gold. If you want to invest in gold but do not want to worry about storing it or its purity, you can consider gold ETFs. These ETFs track gold prices and do not require you to physically own the metal. These are indicative prices, so please check with your nearest jeweller or dealer for the final rate before making a purchase.
As the festive season has kicked into high gear, with Navratri and Dussehra being celebrated last week, jewellers believe that prices dipping at the beginning of the week could encourage more people to buy gold this month ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali. People looking to buy wedding jewellery usually plan their purchases well in advance, and any daily price movement could affect the final cost by the end of the wedding season, particularly for purchases of 50 or 100 grams.
Jewellery Stocks Today
Listed jewellery stocks were up in late-morning trade on Monday. As the stock markets firmed up, the Nifty 50 hovered around the 22,505 mark, up around 0.37 per cent. Kalyan Jewellers India was the biggest gainer, followed by Titan Company. PC Jeweller and Thangamayil Jewellery trailed behind.

Kalyan Jewellers India led the pack, opening at ₹534.90 against a previous close of ₹528.50, climbing through the morning to a high of ₹556.65, and trading at ₹554.40, up 4.90 per cent and comfortably above its volume-weighted average price of ₹550.11. The stock’s strength stood out against a broader market that was up less than half a percentage point, suggesting stock-specific buying interest beyond the general risk-on tone.
Titan Company opened at ₹4,574.90 against a previous close of ₹4,587.00, dipped briefly before climbing to a high of ₹4,621.80, and was trading at ₹4,581.50, up 1.46 per cent though below its VWAP of ₹4,591.52 after giving back part of its intraday gain. PC Jeweller opened flat at ₹13.20 against a previous close of ₹13.20, touched a high of ₹13.29, then slid to a low of ₹12.96 before trading at ₹13.11, down 0.68 per cent and just above its VWAP of ₹13.10. The counter continued to see very heavy turnover, with total traded quantity crossing six crore shares.
Thangamayil Jewellery was the session’s weakest performer, opening at ₹4,870.00 against a previous close of ₹4,861.00, touching a high of ₹4,934.00, then reversing sharply to a low of ₹4,761.00 and trading at ₹4,795.00, down 1.36 per cent and below its VWAP of ₹4,823.21. The stock’s slide from an early gain to a fresh intraday low ran counter to the broader market’s firmer tone and to Kalyan Jewellers’ and Titan’s gains on the same day.
Market watchers said Kalyan Jewellers’ sharp outperformance, nearly 5 per cent against a Nifty 50 that was up roughly 0.4 per cent, pointed to a stock-specific trigger rather than a sector-wide re-rating, especially with Thangamayil moving in the opposite direction on the same day. PC Jeweller’s reversal from a flat open to a fresh intraday low, despite recovering somewhat by late morning, continued the stock’s pattern of elevated volatility seen through the past week.
Order book data showed buying interest led on two of the four counters. Buy orders made up 53.43 per cent of total quantity on Kalyan Jewellers India and 55.13 per cent on Thangamayil Jewellery, even though Thangamayil ended the morning lower, while Titan Company was close to balanced with buy orders at 49.89 per cent. PC Jeweller saw sell orders dominate, at 59.46 per cent of a total quantity that ran into several crore shares.
