New Delhi, Aug 10: Gold prices in India moved lower on Monday, with all three major purity categories recording a decline. The fall comes after gold had climbed sharply in the first week of August, taking a little heat off the recent rally.
According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹15,197 per gram, down ₹38 from the previous session. 22-karat gold has fallen by ₹35 to ₹13,930 per gram, while 18-karat gold is trading at ₹11,398 per gram, lower by ₹28.
Today’s decline is noticeable, but it hasn’t changed the broader picture. Gold remains at elevated levels after its strong performance earlier this month, with investors and buyers now watching whether the recent rally resumes or the market spends some time consolidating.
Gold Rate in India Today
| Purity | Price per gram | Change |
| 24K Gold | ₹15,197 | -₹38 |
| 22K Gold | ₹13,930 | -₹35 |
| 18K Gold | ₹11,398 | -₹28 |
Gold Prices Take a Pause After Recent Gains
Gold has had a fairly active start to August.
After moving through several ups and downs during the opening days of the month, prices climbed strongly and crossed the ₹15,000-per-gram mark. Today’s decline suggests some profit-taking after that run, rather than a sharp change in the overall trend.
For buyers, the ₹38-per-gram decline in 24K gold means a 10-gram purchase is now around ₹380 cheaper than the previous session before making charges and taxes are added.
Whether this turns into a deeper correction or remains a short-term pullback will depend on global bullion prices, currency movements and broader market sentiment.
Gold Price in India Per Gram
| Weight | 24K Gold | 22K Gold | 18K Gold |
| 1 gram | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| 8 grams | ₹1,21,576 | ₹1,11,440 | ₹91,184 |
| 10 grams | ₹1,51,970 | ₹1,39,300 | ₹1,13,980 |
| 100 grams | ₹15,19,700 | ₹13,93,000 | ₹11,39,800 |
What Would 10 Grams of 22K Jewellery Cost Today?
The quoted gold rate isn’t the final amount you’ll pay at a jewellery store. Making charges and GST are added to the value of the gold.
Based on today’s 22K rate of ₹13,930 per gram, assuming 12% making charges and 3% GST, here’s an estimated calculation:
| Component | Amount |
| Gold value | ₹1,39,300 |
| Making charges (12%) | ₹16,716 |
| GST (3%) | ₹4,680 |
| Estimated final amount | ₹1,60,696 |
The actual bill can vary depending on the jeweller, jewellery design, wastage and applicable making charges.
Gold Rates Across Major Indian Cities
Gold prices aren’t exactly the same across every city. Today’s rates show a small variation between major markets.
| City | 24K Gold | 22K Gold | 18K Gold |
| Chennai | ₹15,218 | ₹13,950 | ₹11,765 |
| Mumbai | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| Delhi | ₹15,212 | ₹13,945 | ₹11,413 |
| Kolkata | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| Bangalore | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| Hyderabad | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| Kerala | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| Pune | ₹15,197 | ₹13,930 | ₹11,398 |
| Vadodara | ₹15,202 | ₹13,935 | ₹11,403 |
| Ahmedabad | ₹15,202 | ₹13,935 | ₹11,403 |
Among the cities listed, Chennai has the highest gold rate, with 24K gold at ₹15,218 per gram. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune are quoting ₹15,197 per gram for 24K gold, while Delhi is slightly higher at ₹15,212.
These differences can come from local market conditions, transportation costs, taxes, dealer margins and other pricing factors.
Gold Price Movement Today
Today’s move is clearly on the weaker side, with all major purity categories declining.
For 24K gold, the ₹38-per-gram drop translates to a ₹380 decline on 10 grams. The corresponding fall is ₹35 per gram for 22K gold and ₹28 per gram for 18K gold.
The broad-based decline suggests that today’s movement isn’t limited to a particular purity segment. Instead, gold prices across the board are taking a breather after the recent rise.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?
Gold prices are influenced by several factors, both in India and globally.
International gold prices, movements in the rupee against the US dollar, inflation expectations, interest-rate decisions, central bank buying, import duties and geopolitical developments can all affect domestic gold rates.
That is why gold can move noticeably from one session to the next even when local jewellery demand hasn’t changed much.
Conclusion
Gold prices in India declined on Monday, with 24K gold falling ₹38 to ₹15,197 per gram and 22K gold dropping ₹35 to ₹13,930 per gram. 18K gold also slipped to ₹11,398 per gram.
Despite today’s correction, gold continues to trade at elevated levels after its strong run earlier in August. Buyers will now be watching whether the latest decline develops into a larger correction or simply turns out to be a short pause before the next move.
