New Delhi, Aug 7: Gold prices in India continued to move higher on Friday, marking the third consecutive day of gains. While today’s increase was relatively modest, it came after two strong sessions that lifted gold sharply from this week’s lows. With prices holding firm near monthly highs, the market appears to have found support after a brief correction at the start of August.

According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹14,989 per gram, up ₹16 from Thursday. 22-karat gold has increased by ₹15 to ₹13,740 per gram, while 18-karat gold is trading at ₹11,242 per gram, higher by ₹12.

Although Friday’s move was far smaller than the sharp gains seen earlier this week, it suggests buyers are still active. Rather than giving back recent gains, gold has remained close to the ₹15,000-per-gram mark, indicating that sentiment continues to favour the precious metal.

22K Gold ₹13,740 +₹15
18K Gold ₹11,242 +₹12

Gold’s Recovery Is Still Intact

Gold had slipped to its lowest level of the month, leading many buyers to expect a deeper correction. Instead, prices rebounded sharply over the next two sessions, recovering almost everything they had lost. Friday didn’t bring another big jump, but it also didn’t bring any meaningful decline.

That’s an encouraging sign for the market. After a strong rally, prices often witness profit booking. This time, however, gold has largely held its ground, suggesting buyers remain comfortable even at current levels.

Gold prices continue to remain broadly aligned across the country, with only minor variations between cities. Delhi is currently quoting the highest retail price among the major metros, while Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune are all trading at the same level. These small differences are generally driven by local taxes, transportation costs and jewellers’ pricing policies.

Making charges (12%) ₹16,488

The final bill may vary depending on the jeweller, jewellery design, wastage charges and applicable making charges.

Gold’s Recent Trend

The past week has been a reminder of how quickly sentiment can shift in the gold market. Prices weakened during the opening days of August before staging a sharp recovery that unfolded over three consecutive sessions.

While Friday’s increase was relatively modest, it helped gold stay close to its monthly high instead of retreating after the rally. That resilience suggests buyers continue to step in despite higher prices, keeping the broader trend positive.

August Performance So Far

Particulars 24K Gold 22K Gold
August 1 Price ₹14,422 ₹13,220
August 7 Price ₹14,989 ₹13,740
Highest in August ₹15,004 (Delhi)
Lowest in August ₹14,400
Overall Trend Positive

Gold has made a strong comeback in the first week of August. After briefly slipping early in the month, prices recovered rapidly and are now trading close to fresh monthly highs across most cities. The turnaround has been swift enough to erase almost the entire correction seen at the beginning of August.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold prices are influenced by a combination of international and domestic factors. Global bullion prices, movements in the rupee against the US dollar, inflation expectations, central bank policies, import duties and geopolitical developments all play a role in determining daily rates.

Changes in any of these factors can push prices higher or lower, even when jewellery demand within India remains relatively stable.

Conclusion

Gold prices in India continued to edge higher on Friday, with 24K gold trading at ₹14,989 per gram across most major cities. Although the pace of gains has slowed after this week’s sharp rally, the market has managed to hold close to its monthly highs, reflecting steady buying interest. Going forward, global bullion prices, currency movements and upcoming economic data will remain the key drivers of gold’s direction.
