So, gold today lost Rs 3,490 for 24 karat, Rs 3,200 for 22 karat and Rs 2,620 for 18 karat gold, as investors sold the yellow metal to realise profits.

Delhi is the second costliest city after Chennai for gold purchases in India while Pune, Mumbai and Kolkata are cheapest for gold purchases along with few other cities.

Spot gold rates today slipped after rallying sharply last week, with bullion traders turning cautious after its recent rally. Bullion traders said that investors booked profits and the dollar recovered from its recent lows, dragging down sentiment. Demand for safe-haven gold also cooled and some easing in geopolitical tensions across West Asia prompted investors to take fresh positions in riskier assets, they added.
Fall in gold prices came after gold on Wednesday closed at its highest levels since April 10 in line with global trend after Iran attacked Iraqi military bases hosting U.S. troops. “Retail demand for gold continued to hold up well, supported by jewellery purchases linked to wedding season. However, today’s fall after two consecutive days of gains saw some consumers turn up buying after the dip,” said Prajjwal Tayal, director at KR Jewellers.

Experts tracking bullion markets said they expect prices to trend in a range for some time until traders get some fresh cues from U.S. economic data. Analysts said, however, that gold prices are expected to remain supported over the medium term and dips are likely to be bought by investors and central banks.
Markets will now focus on weekly data on U.S. inflation due later in the day for clues on when the Federal Reserve may start cutting interest rates. Choppy trade is likely to continue for some time now in bullion markets. If prices do dip below Rs 1.43 lakh, that may attract fresh buying from investors. Else, they expect prices to consolidate in the Rs 1,43,000–1,46,000 range for some time.
Among regional prices, Chennai is still the most expensive city to buy gold in India today. The rate for 24 karat gold in Chennai is Rs 1,44,540 per 10 gm, Rs 1,32,490 per 10 gm for 22 karat gold and Rs 1,10,690 per 10 gm for 18 karat gold today. This is Rs 1,420 higher than national price for 24 karat gold. Higher taxes and differences in local transportation cost and jewellery-association pricing markup are the two factors that drive up prices of gold specifically in Tamil Nadu compared to the national benchmark price.
Delhi is the next expensive market for gold today quoting Rs 1,43,270 per 10 gm for 24 kt gold, Rs 1,31,340 per 10 gm for 22 kt gold and Rs 1,07,490 per 10 gm for 18 kt gold. This is Rs 150 higher than national price for 24 karat gold. Delhi’s retail gold price has been at a premium to national average for many trading sessions now.
The premium in Delhi, though small, has seldom narrowed to meet national benchmark suggesting the retail-markup in India’s capital is higher compared to most other metro cities.
Vadodara and Ahmedabad report slightly higher prices as well with both quoting Rs 1,43,170 for 24 karat, Rs 1,31,240 for 22 karat and Rs 1,07,390 for 18 karat gold per 10 gm. These quotes are at a premium of Rs 50 to national rates.
Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune report prices in line with national rates quoting Rs 1,43,120 for 24 kt, Rs 1,31,190 for 22 kt and Rs 1,07,340 for 18 karat gold per 10 grams. While the above listed rates are indicative, the actual price you pay to buy gold will be higher by 3 per cent GST. Moreover, jewellers charge making charges when you purchase gold jewellery. These charges can vary between Rs 3,000 and Rs 15,000 per 10 gm depending on the design and complexity of the jewellery. We recommend customers to ask for live rates from their local jewellers before buying gold.
All rates are indicative and are subject to change during the day. These rates may also vary from what is quoted by jewellers in your city. Get live rates for gold in your city.
