Mumbai, July 1: Gold prices steadied on Wednesday after declining for two consecutive sessions. Bullion ended marginally higher and posted a modest recovery as weakness in the dollar and fresh safe-haven demand sparked by overnight ceasefire-induced tensions supported prices.

The domestic price for 10 grams of 24 karat gold (99.9% purity) climbed up to Rs 1,42,050, up Rs 130 from its previous close at Rs 1,41,920. Gold of 22 karat (91.6% purity) was priced at Rs 1,30,210 for 10 grams, Rs 120 higher than previous close of Rs 1,30,090. Prices for 18 karat gold (75% purity) also moved up Rs 100 to Rs 1,06,540 per 10 grams from its previous close of Rs 1,06,440.

Although today’s recovery was mild when compared to Monday’s rally of Rs 3,810, it indicates that the bullion has found its support after seeing profit booking on Tuesday, and that sellers have not yet gathered strength to pull prices back to levels witnessed last week during the ceasefire news.

In regional markets, Chennai continued to be the costliest city to buy gold in India. 24 karat gold for 10 grams is retailing at Rs 1,43,990 in Chennai, followed by Rs 1,31,990 for 22 karat gold and Rs 1,10,490 for 18 karat gold. The 24 karat national benchmark is Rs 1,42,050, making the Chennai price for 10 grams Rs 1,940 expensive than the national price for 24 karat gold. This includes the local taxes and the association advised price fixed by the jewellers in Tamil Nadu.

In Delhi, gold priced for 10 grams in the national capital is being sold at Rs 1,42,200 for 24 karat gold; Rs 1,30,360 for 22 karat gold and Rs 1,06,690 for 18 karat gold. Delhi gold prices were Rs 150 expensive than the national price for 24 karat gold. This has been consistent with Delhi having a narrow historical spread.

Gold in Vadodara and Ahmedabad is priced at Rs 1,42,100 for 24 karat gold; Rs 1,30,260 for 22 karat gold and Rs 1,06,590 for 18 karat gold for 10 grams. Both cities priced their gold Rs 50 expensive than the national benchmark for 24 karat gold. These rates have been consistent with Gujarat historically having a very narrow spread.

Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune saw no deviation from the national price for 24 karat, 22 karat and 18 karat gold, which were priced at Rs 1,42,050, Rs 1,30,210 and Rs 1,06,540 respectively for 10 grams. Gold prices tracking the national benchmark is an indicator of the systematic calibrated movement of rates linked to the exchange in most major Indian cities. Please note that the mentioned prices are indicative prices. On actual purchase you will be charged GST at 3% and making charges as fixed by the jeweller. Making charges can vary from Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000 per 10 grams depending on the complexity of design you choose and the jeweller retailing you buy it from.
