Mumbai, July 17: Gold prices on Friday in India slid Rs 300 per 10 grams. Prices for 24 karat gold dipped to Rs 1,43,280 from Rs 1,43,580 on Thursday. Gold rates for 22 karat slipped Rs 270 to Rs 1,31,340 per 10 grams while 18 karat gold rates came down Rs 220 to Rs 1,07,460 per 10 grams against Rs 1,31,610 and Rs 1,07,680 per 10 grams respectively earlier in the week.

Gold rates broke a one session uptrend on Friday, paring up some of Thursday’s gains even as they continue to trade close to record levels. Rates have been tracking a mix of global rate movements, rupee-dollar fluctuation and safe-haven demand coming from crisis in the Middle East.

Physical demand at the jewellery shops has stayed robust through the week aided by wedding season buying despite prices trading near record highs. Bullion analysts said fresh developments on the interest rate front from US Fed, movement in dollar index and escalation (if any) between Iran and US will be key factors to watch for in the coming sessions along with import duty rates and supply-demand dynamics at home.

“Some technical selling after Thursday’s sharp rally also led to some corrective pullback today, but overall sentiment for bullion remains positive as we head into the weekend,” said a dealer with a private bank.
