Chennai, July 21: Gold prices in Chennai were almost unchanged on Tuesday, though rates ended the day slightly higher. After a stronger move in the previous session, the market added just ₹1 per gram across all major purity categories, indicating that prices are settling into a narrower range.

According to today’s retail rates, 24-karat gold is priced at ₹14,347 per gram, up by ₹1. 22-karat gold is selling at ₹13,151 per gram, while 18-karat gold has moved to ₹10,966 per gram, also gaining ₹1 from Monday.

The change may look insignificant, but it reflects a market that has slowed down after the sharp ups and downs witnessed during the first half of July. Unless global cues become stronger, gold is likely to continue moving in small increments.

Chennai Gold Rate Today

Purity Price per gram Change
24K Gold ₹14,347 +₹1
22K Gold ₹13,151 +₹1
18K Gold ₹10,966 +₹1

Gold Prices Appear to Be Finding Stability

Unlike the first two weeks of July, when gold prices changed sharply almost every day, the past few sessions have been far calmer.

After falling from the month’s highs, prices have recovered gradually without any major spikes. Tuesday’s movement was minimal, showing that buyers and sellers are largely waiting for fresh triggers before taking aggressive positions.

For anyone planning to buy jewellery, the current stability could make budgeting easier than it was earlier this month.

July Performance So Far

Particulars 24K Gold 22K Gold
July Opening Price ₹14,509 ₹13,300
July 21 Price ₹14,347 ₹13,151

Gold has recovered from its recent lows but is still trading below where it began the month. That means buyers today are paying slightly less than they would have at the start of July, despite the recovery seen over the past few trading sessions.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold prices change daily because they respond to movements in international bullion markets, fluctuations in the rupee against the US dollar, import costs, central bank policies, inflation expectations and geopolitical developments. Even when domestic demand remains steady, changes in these global factors can influence retail prices across India.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Chennai remained largely stable on July 21, with only a ₹1 increase across all purity levels. The market has become noticeably calmer after the sharp swings seen earlier this month. For now, gold appears to be holding within a narrow range, and traders will be watching global market cues to see whether the next meaningful move is higher or lower.
