New Delhi, Sep 2 – The government is proceeding with the next phase of India Semiconductor Mission and the Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. The schemes are intended to improve the standing of India in the global electronics and semiconductor manufacturing supply chain.

Focus on Critical Minerals

Talking about the inaugural session of Semicon India 2025, Modi highlighted that the building block for digital infrastructure is critical minerals. He informed that India has already embarked on the Critical Minerals Mission for the supply of rare earth elements required for next-generation technologies, including semiconductors, renewable energy, and electric mobility.

Boosting Semiconductor and Design Innovation

Modi declared the government is proceeding with the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission, in addition to a revamped DLI scheme to increase chip design and innovation. “We are making preparations for the next phase of the India Semiconductor Mission,” he asserted, reprising the government’s pledge towards developing indigenous innovation.

India’s Global Ambition

Highlighting the country’s vision for self-reliance, the Prime Minister added, “The day is not far when the smallest chip made in India will drive the biggest change in the world.” His remarks reflect New Delhi’s strategy to reduce import dependence and establish India as a significant player in the global semiconductor value chain.
