Ministry of Defence signed a ₹2,901 crore procurement contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for six Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk-III units in the maritime role. HAL informedin a regulatory filing submitted under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The disclosure, circulated to BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd under filing reference CO/SEC/4(7)/2025-26 / BSE & NSE Filing/76, stated that the helicopters will be delivered to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The package includes operational role equipment, an engineering support arrangement and a performance-based logistics support structure.
The procurement falls under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category a classification used within India’s defence acquisition framework to prioritise domestically designed and manufactured platforms.
HAL’s ALH Mk-III helicopters are twin-engine rotary aircraft designed for maritime security missions. According to a Defence Ministry release on Tuesday. The helicopters are capable of operating from both shore-based airfields and ships at sea.
The induction is intended to strengthen the Indian Coast Guard’s operational capacity in maritime surveillance, offshore asset protection, search-and-rescue and environmental monitoring missions.

Contract Structure and Technical Scope
The Ministry of Defence announcement states that the ALH Mk-III procurement forms part of a wider defence acquisition package worth ₹5,083 crore.
Alongside the helicopter contract with HAL, the ministry also approved a ₹2,182 crore agreement with JSC Rosoboronexport of the Russian Federation for Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch (VL-Shtil) missile systems for the Indian Navy.
Within the HAL portion, the contract includes:
- Six ALH Mk-III (Maritime Role) helicopters
- Integrated operational mission equipment
- Engineering support package
- Performance-based logistics support
Performance-based logistics (PBL) contracts typically link contractor compensation to fleet availability metrics rather than fixed maintenance schedules. The structure is designed to improve operational readiness while controlling long-term lifecycle costs.
Government documentation further indicates that the helicopter programme is expected to source components and subsystems from more than 200 Indian MSMEs, generating an estimated 6.5 million man-hours of employment across the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
