Mumbai, May 20: Hindalco Industries shares rose after its wholly owned subsidiary Novelis Inc reported fourth-quarter and full fiscal year 2026 results, with fire-related losses at its Oswego plant weighing on earnings.

Novelis reported net sales of $18.4 billion for fiscal 2026, up 7% from the previous year, mainly due to higher average aluminium prices.

Net income attributable to common shareholder fell 98% year-on-year to $15 million. Excluding special items, net income declined 38% to $476 million, as per the company’s disclosure.

Adjusted EBITDA stood at $1.6 billion, down 9%, impacted by an estimated $104 million negative effect from Oswego production interruptions and $143 million from tariffs.

Hindalco Share Price Rises On Novelis Restart Progress

Hindalco share price was trading at ₹1,084.90, up ₹36.60 or 3.49%, as of 12:06 pm IST on May 20, 2026, according to market data.

The stock opened at ₹1,038.40 and touched a high of ₹1,090 so far during the session.

The movement followed Novelis’ statement that the Oswego hot mill is expected to restart ahead of earlier expectations, with commissioning activities ramping up.

Company Background

Novelis is a global aluminium rolling and recycling company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hindalco Industries.

The company serves aerospace, automotive, beverage packaging and specialty markets across North America, Europe, Asia and South America.

Hindalco is the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, with operations across aluminium and copper.

Conclusion

The Novelis results showed a sharp profit decline due to fire-related disruptions, restructuring charges and other expenses.

However, progress on the Oswego restart and continued commissioning at Bay Minette appeared to support investor sentiment in Hindalco shares.
