Hindustan Unilever Share Price Tank 5% As Record Date Set for Kwality Wall’s Demerger Today Post NCLT Approval

Friday, December 05, 2025: The ice cream segment of Hindustan Unilever (HUL) is being demerged to create a new separate entity for the segment named Kwality Wall’s (India) Limited. The record date for the same has been set as December 05, 2025. The shares of the new entity will be listed in due course.
Key Details About The Demerge
HUL approved the demerger of its ice-cream segment in early November 2024. The segment included popular brands such as ‘Kwality Wall’s’, ‘Cornetto’, and ‘Magnum’. The demerger scheme was eventually approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on October 30, 2025. Following the tribunal’s decision, the demerger came into effect on December 01, 2025. As per the approved scheme, the swap ratio for the shares is set at 1:1. Further, the shares issued to the eligible shareholders should be listed on the stock exchange within 60 days of the tribunal’s ruling.
The Record Date of the Demerger
The record date of the demerger has been set for December 05, 2025, by the company. The record date will set the eligibility of HUL’s shareholders to receive shares of the new company. The eligible shareholders will receive shares in the ice-cream company. The shares will be issued as per the share swap ratio approved under the scheme, which is 1:1. The shares under the scheme will be allotted on December 29, 2025.
The Ice-Cream Segment
The ice-cream segment of HUL includes popular brands such as Kwality Wall’s, Cornetto, Magnum, Feast, and Creamy Delight. It contributes about 3 percent of HUL’s total yearly turnover. This totals to around ₹1,800 crore for the total revenue. Demerging it from HUL will allow HUL to monetize on it fully. It will also allow HUL to streamline its strategy to separate a distinct, seasonal, high-growth business from its core FMCG operations.
Stock Market Snapshot of HUL
The shares of the company adjusted to the demerger of its ice-cream segment. The adjusted price of the shares was ₹2,422.00. As of December 05, 2025, 01:40 pm, the share price of Hindustan Unilever were trading at ₹2,330.90. This was a 131.30 points or 5.33% decline w.r.t Open Price and 131.70 points or 5.35 % decline w.r.t Issue Price. The company has had a moderate trading session, with its total quantity at 54.49% Sell and 45.47% Buy. The traded volume and trade quantity so far are at 27.13 Lakhs and ₹637.77 Cr, respectively. The total market cap of the company is at ₹5,47,501.76 Cr.
