Rotorua, November 7, 2025: India and New Zealand have wrapped up the fourth round of negotiations for their proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The two countries have mutually agreed to speed up efforts for its early conclusion.

Piyush Goyal, the Commerce and Industry Minister, met New Zealand’s Trade Minister Todd McClay. This meeting happened in Rotorua. The meeting was intended to review the progress of the discussions. The talk is focused on market access for goods, services, economic and technical cooperation, and investment opportunities.

In a social media post, Piyush Goyal mentioned that both nations are marching towards a balanced, comprehensive, and mutually beneficial agreement. This agenda is in line with their growing strategic and economic convergence.

In his 3-day visit, Piyush Goyal also met other business leaders. The meet was intended to explore options to enhance the bilateral trade and investment partnerships. Yesterday, Piyush Goyal mentioned that the negotiations and talks were progressing and he expressed absolute optimism, which is expected to be finalized soon.

India and New Zealand see the trade pact as a crucial opportunity to boost economic ties. And are very sure of creating new avenues for investment and collaboration across sectors and segments.
