Markets Get a Boost From Ceasefire

Indian markets are in green today because of the ceasefire in hostilities between India and Pakistan. The ceasefire was announced on Saturday, 10th May, 2025. After some initial hiccups the ceasefire has held over the past two nights. Last night is reported to be a completely peaceful night in the border state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Only Two Stocks at Nifty 50 in Red

At this time, top gainers at Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises, Shriram Finance and HCL Tech. Top losers at Nifty 50 were Sun Pharma and IndusInd Bank. Only these two stocks were losers at Nifty 50 at this time. All the other stocks that make up Nifty 50 were gaining. IndusInd’s stock is in red because Moody’s has downgraded its credit rating to ba2.

All the broader market indices were also in green at this time. Nifty Smallcap 100 index was the top gainer at this time, up by 3.75%. Small cap stocks tend to gain more when uncertainty in the broader economy goes down. They also tend to lose more when uncertainty goes up.

Pharma Stocks Facing Some Downward Pressure

Among sectoral indices at NSE, all the sectoral indices were in green. Pharma stocks are facing some downward pressure today because of US President Donald Trump’s decision to issue an executive order to reduce prices of prescription drugs in US by 30% to 80%. US is the biggest market for many Indian pharma companies.
