Indo Us Bio Tech, ICAR-IARI Sign MoU for Commercialization of Hybrid Maize Variety

Ahmedabad, July 9, 2025: Indo Us Bio Tech Ltd (BSE: 541304 | NSE: INDOUS) today announced a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) for the commercial deployment of the high-quality maize hybrid HQPM-5 variety.

The MOU was officially signed on July 9, 2025, by Executive Director Mrs. Priyanka Ajudia and Promoter Mr. Samarth Patel, with Dr. Vishwanathan from ICAR-IARI also present. What is HQPM-5 Maize Hybrid?

HQPM-5, or “High-Quality Protein Maize-5” (Pusa HQPM5 Improved), is a biofortified maize hybrid developed by ICAR-IARI. It is an improved variety of Quality Protein Maize (QPM) that is not only rich in essential amino acids but also in provitamin A.

Key features and benefits of HQPM-5 include:

• Enhanced Nutritional Value: Unlike normal maize, which is deficient in essential amino acids like lysine and tryptophan, HQPM-5 is developed to have almost double the quantity of these vital amino acids. It also contains desirable levels of provitamin-A carotenoids, which are crucial for proper vision and immunity. For example, ‘Pusa HQPM-5 Improved’ is enriched with lysine (3.37%), tryptophan (0.72%), and provitamin A (6.60 ppm).
• High Yielding: As a hybrid, HQPM-5 is designed for high productivity, offering better yields compared to traditional varieties. High-quality maize seeds are specifically bred for higher yield potential, contributing to increased profitability for farmers.
