Insecticides (India) Ltd, one of the leaders in the crop protection and plant nutrition industry, has recently launched ‘Altair’, a patented pre-emergent herbicide for paddy. The product would be sold in India by Insecticides India only.
Cutting-Edge Weed Control for Indian Paddy Farmers
Altair represents a breakthrough in pre-emergent weed management technology, delivering targeted control against a broad spectrum of persistent weeds such as Echinochloa crus-galli, Ammania, Cyperus species, and others. Designed specifically for Indian agronomic conditions, Altair forms a protective barrier in the soil when applied 0–3 days post-transplanting, suppressing weed emergence for 40–50 days, a critical growth phase for paddy crops.
“We are happy to bring out Altair, which is first in its category solution and is all set to make Indian farmers experience effective weed removal from the initial stage,” said Rajesh Kumar Aggarwal, Managing Director, Insecticides (India) Ltd. “This launch underlines our deep commitment towards providing path-breaking products and supporting Indian farming community’s prosperity”.
Demonstrated Success Across India
Dushyant Sood, Chief Marketing Officer, IIL, said, “The product has been showcased to more than 10,000 farmers in 500+ big plots spread in different agro-climatic locations, wherein the results were significantly encouraging over the existing herbicides.” “Altair solves the ongoing issue of hand-weeding and late herbicide application. It has even been found to work better than anything farmers are currently using,” observed Sood.
Strategic Partnership & Distribution
This product launch further strengthens the strategic alliance between IIL and Nissan Chemical Corporation, which began in 2013. Distribution will be carried out through Insecticides India’s extensive national network, ensuring availability across all major paddy-growing regions in the country.
Manoj Singh Bhandari, Crop Manager – Rice at IIL, highlighted Altair’s consistent performance and ease of application as key differentiators: “Altair is a game-changer for rice farmers and ensures timely weed control with less labor dependency”.
