Mumbai, October 28: Jain Irrigation Systems Limited has entered into an agreement with carbon removal marketplace Supercritical for biochar carbon removal credits covering up to 19,000 tonnes from its industrial facility in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, for 2026 and 2027. Jain Irrigation shares were trading 1.32% lower at ₹24.75 in morning trade on Wednesday.
Jain Irrigation Systems’s Biochar Carbon Removal Agreement
The agreement covers biochar produced at Jain Irrigation’s industrial facility in Jalgaon, which converts agricultural and food-processing residues into biochar. The company said the process supports durable carbon removal and sustainable agricultural practices.
The facility has been producing biochar since early 2026. Its production process uses gasification to convert biomass residues into a stable form of carbon that can remain stored in soil for extended periods. The company also uses the output within its operations, including as a soil amendment in its agricultural business.
The project is undergoing verification through Puro.earth, with an independent BeZero Carbon rating also underway. The agreement covers carbon removal credits for 2026 and 2027; the company did not disclose the financial value of the deal.
Stock Market Snapshot
The Jain Irrigation Systems share price was trading 1.32% lower at ₹24.75 on Wednesday, October 28, compared with the previous close of ₹25.08. The stock opened at ₹25.01.
The agreement adds a carbon-removal component to the company’s agricultural processing operations, linking the use of agricultural residues with biochar production and potential carbon credit generation.
