New Delhi: Jio Platforms’ IPO Rs 8,110-crore anchor book attracted demand exceeding 30 times the amount on offer, with aggregate institutional bids reaching around Rs 2.5 lakh crore, signalling strong investor interest ahead of the company’s much-anticipated stock market debut.

Global asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, domestic mutual funds, insurers and pension funds are among the institutional investors seeking a share of the offering by participating in the anchor book, according to people familiar with the matter.

Some large overseas investors and domestic institutions have bid for allocations worth USD 750 million to more than USD 1 billion each, according to the people.

Most tier-one funds are expected to receive shares worth around Rs 400 crore to Rs 450 crore apiece, while a wider pool of investors could receive smaller allocations of Rs 10 crore to Rs 20 crore, they said.

The Rs 8,110-crore anchor book – where institutional investors are allotted shares ahead of the public subscription period under the IPO process – is expected to feature a broad roster of global asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, Indian mutual funds, insurers and pension investors, making it one of the most closely watched institutional allocations in the Indian primary market.

The global asset managers included BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments, T. Rowe Price, Schroders, JPMorgan Asset Management, Franklin Templeton, Invesco and Janus Henderson. Sovereign wealth funds and public investment institutions in the book included Singapore’s GIC, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the Qatar Investment Authority and Norway’s Norges Bank Investment Management.

Domestic institutions were also prominent, with major mutual fund houses such as SBI Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, Nippon India Mutual Fund and Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company among the participants.

Insurers and pension investors included Life Insurance Corporation of India, HDFC Life Insurance, SBI Life Insurance, SBI Pension Funds, HDFC Pension and ICICI Prudential.

The breadth of participation highlights the interest in securing exposure to Jio Platforms ahead of its market debut.

The IPO opens for public subscription on Wednesday, October 21, with the company seeking a valuation of around USD 108 billion, according to the offering details. The subscription closes on October 23.

The telecom and digital services business is part of Reliance Industries, the conglomerate controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, which will retain a majority stake following the listing.

Jio Platforms is seeking to raise about Rs 30,213 crore through the initial public offering. The price band has been set at Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 a share, with the offering comprising up to 27 crore new shares.

The offering is expected to become India’s largest IPO, with proceeds intended in part to support debt repayment at its telecom subsidiary, alongside general corporate purposes, according to the company’s offer documents.

Jio Platforms has expanded from its core mobile connectivity business into broadband, digital entertainment, cloud and enterprise services. Its listing will give public-market investors a direct investment route into the business, which has so far operated as a subsidiary of Reliance Industries.

The company had 533.3 million subscribers as of June 2026 and accounted for nearly 60 per cent of India’s data traffic, according to reported company figures.

The strong institutional interest could support participation in the broader IPO.

Anchor investors’ participation can provide an indication of institutional appetite, although allocations, valuation and subsequent market performance remain separate considerations.

Jio has become one of the world’s largest mobile operators by subscriber numbers after a decade of heavy investment that helped transform Reliance from an oil-and-chemicals group into a business with a significant presence across India’s digital economy.

Its operations span mobile connectivity, broadband, digital entertainment, cloud and enterprise services, giving investors exposure to a business that plays a central role in India’s telecommunications market.

The listing will provide public-market investors with a direct investment route into Jio Platforms, while bringing renewed attention to its growth prospects, valuation and capital requirements.

The strong anchor demand could bolster attention on the wider IPO, but the extent to which it translates into public subscription will become clearer once the issue opens.

Investors will also weigh Jio’s growth opportunities against competitive pressures, regulatory risks and the challenge of converting its large subscriber base into sustained revenue growth, analysts said.
