JSW Steel Posts 14% YoY Growth in Q1 FY26 Crude Steel Output Despite Planned Downtime

Mumbai, 9 July 2025: JSW Steel Limited (NSE: JSWSTEEL, BSE: 500228), one of India’s top integrated steel producers, reported a 14% year-on-year increase in consolidated crude steel production for the first quarter of FY26, reaching 7.26 million tonnes. The growth comes despite a 5% sequential dip due to scheduled maintenance shutdowns during the quarter.
JSW Steel Ltd’s share price opened at ₹1,051.70 and slipped to ₹1,037.10 by 9:48 AM, marking a decline of ₹7.90 or 0.76% despite reporting a 14% year-on-year rise in Q1 FY26 crude steel production. The stock traded within a range of ₹1,035.70 to ₹1,052.00 during the early hours. Investor sentiment appeared cautious, likely reflecting the 5% sequential drop in production due to planned maintenance downtime. The company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹2.52 lakh crore with a P/E ratio of 72.38
Quarterly Production Growth Highlights Strong Year-on-Year Performance
The company’s production for Q1 FY26 rose significantly from the same quarter last year, driven by continued operational strength in India and improved output from its U.S. operations.

JSW Steel attributed the quarter-on-quarter decline to planned blast furnace maintenance in its Indian operations. With maintenance now completed, capacity utilisation for Q1 FY26 in India stood at 87%, indicating restored operational normalcy.
Long-Term Capacity Expansion Targets 43.4 MTPA Output
As the flagship company of the $23 billion JSW Group, JSW Steel currently operates with a consolidated crude steel capacity of 35.7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This includes 1.5 MTPA in the United States and an additional 1.7 MTPA under commissioning in India. The company plans to scale this capacity up to 43.4 MTPA over the next three years.
The Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka remains a key contributor, with a current and upcoming combined capacity of 17.5 MTPA, making it the largest single-location steel facility in India.
