Euro Zone Consumer Confidence Falls To-14.6 in December
Euro zone consumer confidence fell by 0.4 points in December from the November number, figures released on Friday showed. The European Commission said flash estimate showed euro zone consumer morale decreased to-14.6 this month from-14.2 in November. Economists polled by Reuters had expected a rise to-14.0.
US Existing Home Sales Edge Up in November As Mortgage Rates Ease
U.S. existing home sales increased modestly in November amid an easing in mortgage rates, but economic uncertainty is keeping potential buyers on the sidelines.
The report from the National Association of Realtors on Friday also showed the inventory of previously owned homes fell from October to an eight-month low, limiting choices for those looking to buy. Though housing supply typically decreases heading into winter, inventory growth has slowed on a year-over-year basis, likely in response to sluggish demand. But limited supply could prevent an outright decline in home prices.
U.S. Consumer Sentiment Rebounds Less Than Previously Estimated in December
Consumer sentiment in the U.S. rebounded by less than previously estimates in the month of December, according to revised data released by the University of Michigan on Friday. The University of Michigan said its consumer sentiment index for December was downwardly revised to 52.9 from a preliminary reading of 53.3. Economists had expected the index to be upwardly revised to 53.4
UK Retail Sales Fall Unexpectedly
UK retail sales dropped unexpectedly in November as the Black Friday effect was slightly weakerthan usual, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Friday. Retail sales dropped marginally by 0.1 percent in November from a month ago. The decline confounded expectations for an increase of 0.3 percent but this was slower than October’s 0.9 percent decrease.
