Switzerland wins US tariff rate cut to 15%, pledges $200 billion in US investments

The United States and Switzerland announced a framework trade agreement that includes Washington slashing its tariffs on imported Swiss products to 15% from 39% and a pledge by Swiss companies to invest $200 billion in the U.S. by the end of 2028.

The United States and Switzerland, joined by Liechtenstein, aim to conclude negotiations to finalize their trade deal by the first quarter of 2026, the White House said.

At least $67 billion of the $200 billion in pledged Swiss investments in the United States will come in 2026, theWhite House said in a statement.

China rare earths deal will ’hopefully’ be done by Thanksgiving, Bessent says

A rare earths deal between the U.S. and China will “hopefully” be done by Thanksgiving, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in remarks that aired on Sunday.

Bessent’s comments follow a framework agreement announced last month in which Washington agreed not to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese imports and China would hold off on an export licensing regime for crucial rare earths minerals and magnets.

Japan GDP shrinks 1.8% in Q3, less than expected

Japan’s economy shrank less than expected in the third quarter of 2025, gross domestic product data showed on Monday, as steady capital spending among businesses helped offset weak private consumption.

GDP fell 1.8% year-on-year in the September quarter, less than expectations for a drop of 2.5%. But growth turned negative from a 2.3% increase in the prior quarter, which was also revised higher.

GDP shrank 0.4% quarter-on-quarter, slightly less than expectations for a 0.6% drop and the reverse of 0.5% growth seen in the prior quarter.
