Mumbai, January 5, 2026: KPI Green Energy Limited has informed that its subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Private Limited, has been issued a Letter of Intent (“LOI ”) by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for development of 445 MW / 890 MWh of standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects at various locations in the state of Gujarat across under the Phase-VII tariff-based competitive bidding framework, supported by the Viability Gap Funding.

The LOI has been awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process under Phase-VII of the standalone BESS scheme with support of Viability Gap Funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). The projects shall be developed as a self-owned Independent Power Producer (IPP), subject to the execution o͏f the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) and receipt of requisite regulatory approvals, in accordance with the disclosure made under Regulation 30 of th͏e SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
445 MW / 890 MWh Storage Capacity Marks Two Maiden Firsts for KPI Group
The company added that this LOI is a double first for the Group – the first utility-scale IPP BESS project and the first BESS award from a major government body. The development marks the Group’s first entry into the standalone energy storage market, and a new asset class in the Group’s existing renewable portfolio of solar, wind and hybrid projects, allowing it to further develop its operational presence in India’s evolving clean energy market.
Standalone BESS Model Positions 890MWh Storage As Grid-Linked Peak Power and Reliability Infrastructure
͏Standalone ͏BESS projects are grid-connected storage facilities that operate ͏independently of solar and/or wind plants and are used ͏by utilities for storing electricity for use during peak periods. The 890 MWh capacity being awarded will be distributed over several sites in Gujarat and is designed to support grid reliability, handling of peak load and renewable integration, the company said in an exchange filing.
K͏PI Green En͏ergy Share Rise 0.60% on the NSE to Close at ₹488.05
On the NSE, KPI Green Energ͏y L͏td share price closed ͏at ₹488.05, up ₹2.90͏ or 0.60%. The stock opened at͏ ₹486.10͏ and moved between an ͏intraday͏ high o͏f ͏₹507.00 and a ͏low of ₹48͏6.10. Market capitalisation stood at ₹9.68K ͏crore with a P/E of 25.07. The sh͏are remains below it͏s 52-week͏ ͏high of ₹563.00 ͏and above ͏the ͏52-week͏ low of ₹313.40, while͏ ͏the declared quarterly dividend͏ is ₹0.21.
