L&T steps into industrial electronics manufacturing; shares ease slightly as markets assess long-term impact.

Mumbai, April 24: Larsen & Toubro said it has entered the industrial electronics segment with the launch of a new business vertical, according to an exchange filing.
The company has set up L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS), which will focus on the design and manufacturing of industrial electronic systems. Strategic functions will be based in Bengaluru, while manufacturing operations are located in Coimbatore.
Two production lines are operational at the Coimbatore facility, enabling the unit to cater to both domestic and international markets from inception.
The business will target segments including power electronics, automation systems, mobility solutions and communication platforms. The company also plans to expand the facility across a 40-acre site, integrating design, development, manufacturing and testing capabilities.
L&T Shares Snapshot
L&T share price declined in early trade following the announcement. At 10:32 a.m. IST, the stock was trading at ₹4,023.20, down 0.76% from its previous close of ₹4,054.10. It moved between ₹4,009.80 and ₹4,088.10 during the session.
Market participants appeared cautious as the new segment is expected to require time and investment before contributing meaningfully to earnings.
The move marks L&T’s expansion into technology-led manufacturing, aligning with broader industry trends and domestic efforts to strengthen electronics production capabilities.
“The foray into industrial electronics is an important step towards our Lakshya 2031 aspiration of deepening technology leadership and enhancing India’s self-reliance in critical manufacturing. With LTEPS, we are bolstering the nation’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem while expanding our presence across high‑growth, innovation‑driven domains,” L&T Chairman & Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan said.
The company said the initiative will combine in-house research and development with technology partnerships and advanced testing infrastructure to support product development.
