Mumbai, September 24: Maruti Suzuki India has commissioned its first green hydrogen plant at its Manesar facility in Haryana, marking the company’s latest move to introduce renewable energy into its manufacturing operations.
According to the company’s exchange disclosure, the pilot plant uses a 300 kW Green Hydrogen Generation System (GHGS) electrolyser to produce green hydrogen at the Manesar facility.
The hydrogen will be blended with natural gas and used as a process fuel in manufacturing operations. The plant is designed to make use of solar energy generated at the Manesar facility during holidays, when some of the renewable power would otherwise remain unused.
Maruti Suzuki said the hydrogen is stored and subsequently used in its manufacturing operations. The company plans to use the experience gained from the pilot project to explore the wider adoption of green hydrogen across its manufacturing facilities in Haryana and Gujarat.
Stock Market Snapshot
Maruti Suzuki shares were trading at ₹12,148 as of 12:42 PM IST on September 24, 2026, down ₹82, or 0.67%, according to the market data shown.
The stock moved between roughly ₹12,100 and ₹12,170 through the morning session. After touching higher levels around the opening hour, it remained volatile and was quoted at ₹12,148 at the latest available timestamp.
The Maruti Suzuki share price was therefore down 0.67% while the company announced the commissioning of its green hydrogen facility.

Green Hydrogen Plant Uses Surplus Solar Power
The Manesar project is designed around the use of renewable power generated at the company’s facility. Solar energy produced during holidays will be used to generate hydrogen rather than remaining unused.
Maruti Suzuki said the pilot project is intended to help reduce reliance on conventional process fuels and improve the utilisation of renewable energy within its manufacturing operations.
The company said the initiative is also aligned with the Government of India’s Green Hydrogen Mission and its broader efforts to introduce cleaner energy solutions across manufacturing.
Maruti Suzuki Expands Clean Energy Initiatives
The green hydrogen project is part of a wider set of measures being pursued by Maruti Suzuki to reduce carbon emissions from its manufacturing operations.
The company said it is using a combination of in-house solar power, renewable energy procurement and power purchase agreements with third-party providers for solar and wind-based energy.
Maruti Suzuki is also at an advanced stage of setting up a 10 tonnes per day biogas plant at its Kharkhoda facility, which is expected to be commissioned during FY2026-27. The company has also commissioned a 1 MW battery energy storage system at the Kharkhoda facility.
In addition, the company has started integrating compressed biogas (CBG) as a process fuel. Its board has approved four CBG projects and earmarked ₹5,610 million towards the initiative.
Maruti Suzuki Targets Lower Manufacturing Emissions
The commissioning of the Manesar green hydrogen plant adds another renewable-energy option to Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing operations.
The company said its clean-energy initiatives are intended to improve resource efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing. The pilot will also provide operational experience before any wider adoption of green hydrogen across its plants.
The project is part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader approach of combining solar power, biogas, battery storage and green hydrogen technologies within its manufacturing ecosystem.

Conclusion
Maruti Suzuki India has commissioned a 300 kW pilot green hydrogen generation plant at its Manesar facility, with the hydrogen to be blended with natural gas and used as a process fuel.
The project will utilise surplus solar power generated at the facility and is expected to provide operational experience for potential green hydrogen adoption across the company’s manufacturing facilities. Maruti Suzuki shares were trading at ₹12,148, down 0.67%, as of 12:42 PM IST on September 24, 2026.
