New Delhi, June 17, 2025: The Ministry of Coal has announced that it has achieved a significant milestone by allocating its 200th coal block, furthering its commitment to create a self-reliant coal sector in India. The landmark allocation was made for the Marwatola-II block, which has been awarded to Singhal Business Private Limited.
This achievement highlights the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote transparency, increase private sector involvement, and establish a strong coal industry. The allocation of the 200th block is expected to advance the government’s coal production targets further and contribute to reducing India’s reliance on coal imports.
The Nominated Authority, recognising the pivotal role played by the industry, extended its gratitude to all stakeholders for their continued engagement and support in achieving this milestone. The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to creating an investor-friendly environment by streamlining procedures and accelerating the operationalisation of allocated coal blocks.
Over the past several years, the Ministry of Coal has implemented a series of transformative reforms. Key initiatives include:
- The launch of commercial coal mining opened up the sector to private players for the sale of coal. This marked a significant shift from the previous model, where private participation was limited.
- The introduction of a single-window clearance system to expedite various approvals required for coal mining projects, thereby improving the ease of doing business.
- The integration of digital monitoring and governance tools to enhance accountability and efficiency in the sector.
Significance of the Allocation
The 200th coal block allocation is not merely a numerical achievement; it signifies a forward-thinking approach by the Ministry of Coal aimed at reshaping India’s energy matrix and driving economic growth through strategic reforms. It reflects the government’s vision of achieving self-sufficiency in coal production and ensuring a stable energy supply for the nation’s growing economy.
