The benchmark Nifty 50 closed sharply lower on Wednesday, falling 284.35 points or 1.13% to settle at 24,857.05, tracking weakness across sectors and heavyweights. The index opened at 25,164.45 and traded in a broad range of 25,196.2 to 24,825.9 during the session.

Out of the 50 constituents, 43 stocks ended in the red, reflecting broad-based selling pressure, while only 7 stocks managed to post gains.

The Nifty 50 closed at 24,857.05 on June 12, 2025, falling 284.35 points or 1.13% from the previous session. The index saw a volatile session, touching a low of 24,825.90, before settling near the day’s bottom. Despite the decline, overall market activity remained strong, where traded value rose 8.42% to ₹2.96 lakh crore, and volumes jumped 8.48% to 32.82 crore shares.

Despite a weak broader market, select stocks managed to close in the green on June 12. Apollo Hospitals led the pack with a 0.96% gain, followed by Asian Paints and Bajaj Finserv. Pharma majors like Dr. Reddy’s and IT names such as Tech Mahindra also posted modest gains.

Auto and Retail Stocks Drag Nifty Lower

The Nifty 50’s sharp decline on June 12 was led by broad-based selling in auto, retail, and metal stocks. Tata Motors dropped nearly 3%, followed closely by Titan and Trent, each losing over 2.6%. Other major laggards included Shriram Finance, Coal India, and M&M.
