Mumbai, June 17: Trent emerged as the top performer on the Nifty 50 index on Wednesday, while TVS Motor Company witnessed the sharpest decline among benchmark constituents as investors rotated across retail, metals and select defensive sectors.

According to exchange data, retail, metals and defence-linked stocks attracted buying interest, whereas auto and healthcare counters faced selling pressure during the session.

Trent share price surged 7.25% to ₹3,108, making it the biggest gainer on the benchmark index. Bharat Electronics gained 3.55%, while Hindalco Industries advanced 2.70%.

Metal stocks remained firm, with Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel and JSW Steel ending in positive territory. Insurance names including SBI Life Insurance and HDFC Life Insurance also recorded gains.

TVS Motor Company share price plunged 8.10% to ₹361.70, making it the worst-performing Nifty stock of the session. Cipla and Bajaj Finserv also finished lower.

Among financial stocks, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank remained under pressure, while Bajaj Finance ended marginally lower.

Retail, Metals andDefence Stocks Outperform

The session witnessed strong buying in retail and defence names.

Trent significantly outperformed the broader market, while Bharat Electronics continued to attract investor interest. Metal counters also contributed positively to benchmark performance as Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel advanced.

The Trent share price rally stood out amid otherwise moderate gains across most index constituents.

Auto Stocks Face Selling Pressure

Auto stocks displayed mixed trends, with TVS Motor witnessing substantial weakness.

Eicher Motors and Bajaj Auto also ended in the red, reflecting profit-booking in select automobile counters after recent gains.

Healthcare stocks were mixed, with Sun Pharmaceutical Industries gaining while Cipla and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories declined.
