Nirmala Sitharaman Chairs Third Pre-Budget Consultation with MSME Stakeholders

New Delhi, November 12, 2025: Nirmala Sitharaman recently met with MSME representatives for a pre-budget consultation to discuss various factors. The meeting took place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in New Delhi.
MSME Meeting Key Details
It was a highly productive meeting where the finance minister not only enumerated the difficulties of the MSMEs in the prevailing market situation but also deliberated on the different strategies to support the expansion of the sector. The focal point of the discussion was the raising of competitiveness of the industry and the increasing of its contribution to the country’s economy. This meeting was a great opportunity for the representatives of the MSME industry to give their input. These proposals are important contributions to the next Union Budget.
Presence in the Meeting
Apart from the Finance Minister and representatives of the MSME industry, a large number of prominent individuals were also present at the meeting. Representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of MSME were present. Pankaj Chaudhary, the Union Minister of State for Finance, was also present. The senior officials from the Department of Economic Affairs were also present at the meeting.
Importance of Pre-Budget Meeting
Such pre-consultation meetings are very significant in the whole process of budget planning. The reason behind this is that these meetings provide the Finance Minister with a real-time perspective, thus making the budget more balanced and inclusive in terms of national development. The meetings also give different stakeholder groups the opportunity to put forth their views and present their problems. Hence, these meetings help very much in crafting the next budget.
Union Budget 2026-27
The Finance Ministry is in the process of drawing up the Union Budget 2026-27. The first round of pre-budget consultations for the same was held earlier this week. The meeting was with the country’s leading economists. This was aimed at assessing macroeconomic trends and growth priorities. The expected date of the Union Budget 2026-27 presentation is February 1, 2026, in Parliament.
