Mumbai, February 25,2026: NTPC Ltd on Wednesday announced that it, along with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) has completed the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited through an NCLT-approved resolution plan.

The disclosure was made to both the stock exchanges pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

NTPC is India’s largest power generation company, with the installed capacity across different categories of coal-based, gas-based, hydro, solar and wind projects. Government of India holds majority stake in the company.

MAHAGENCO is a state-owned generation utility in Maharashtra and operates thermal and renewable energy assets across the state.

Acquisition Completed Under Insolvency Resolution Plan

In its filing dated February 24, 2026, NTPC stated that the consortium of MAHAGENCO and NTPC has completed the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (STPL), which had been undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

The transaction has been executed in terms of the resolution plan approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

STPL owns a coal-based thermal power plant with a capacity of 5×270 MW, aggregating 1,350 MW, located at Sinnar in Nashik, Maharashtra.

With the completion of the transaction, NTPC Group’s total installed capacity has increased to 88,132 MW, while commercial capacity stands at 87,052 MW, as per the company’s statement.

As of 11:35 am IST on February 25, 2026, the stock was trading at ₹385.40, up ₹2.65 from the previous close of ₹382.75, according to NSE data.

The stock opened at ₹382.75 and touched a high of ₹388.55 and a low of ₹382.70 so far in the session. The company’s market capitalisation stood at ₹3.73 lakh crore. The 52-week high and low were ₹388.55 and ₹306.55, respectively.

The completion of the Sinnar Thermal Power acquisition adds 1,350 MW of coal-based capacity to the NTPC Group portfolio under an insolvency resolution framework. The integration and operational ramp-up of the asset may influence capacity utilisation and generation metrics going forward, subject to regulatory and fuel supply arrangements.
