Mumbai, July 9: Om Power Transmission Ltd. has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. (PGVCL) for a distribution infrastructure project valued at ₹82.17 crore, including GST. The company disclosed the award in an exchange filing on Wednesday.

The work is not a conventional line-extension contract. PGVCL has tasked the company with converting existing 11 kV high-tension and low-tension distribution lines into an underground cable network under the Kalibaid Subdivision (Part-2) of Bhavnagar Circle. The scope also includes the installation of a Ring Main System (RMS) to improve network reliability.

According to the filing, execution is scheduled over 18 months, beginning 45 days after receipt of the Notice of Award (NoA).

Another Sign of Gujarat’s Push Towards Modern Distribution Networks

This order fits into a broader pattern visible across Gujarat’s electricity distribution system.

State utilities have increasingly been replacing overhead distribution lines with underground networks in urban centres and high-density areas. While the upfront cost is higher, underground systems reduce weather-related outages, improve public safety and lower long-term maintenance requirements. Ring Main Systems add another layer of resilience by allowing electricity supply to be restored through alternate routes if a section of the network develops a fault.

For engineering contractors like Om Power Transmission, these projects demand more than routine construction capability. Utility mapping, network integration and phased execution become just as important as cable installation itself.

The company also confirmed that the contract is a domestic order, awarded on an arm’s-length basis, with no promoter or related-party interest involved.

Stock Market Snapshot

The market reacted positively after the disclosure.

As of 12:04 PM IST on July 9, Om Power share price was trading at ₹174.72, up ₹3.99 or 2.34%.

Infrastructure order announcements often improve investor sentiment because they add visibility to future revenue. At the same time, experienced investors usually watch another metric just as closely: execution. EPC companies ultimately create value by converting order books into timely project completion and cash flows.

Company Background

Om Power Transmission operates in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) segment, undertaking projects across power transmission and distribution infrastructure. Its work includes transmission lines, substations and utility network development for public-sector electricity companies.

The latest PGVCL order expands the company’s exposure to underground distribution infrastructure, an area that has seen steady tender activity as utilities modernise ageing networks and strengthen power reliability.

Conclusion

An ₹82.17 crore contract may not transform the company’s order book overnight, but it reinforces a trend that is becoming increasingly visible in the power sector. Distribution utilities are shifting their focus from simply expanding networks to making existing infrastructure more reliable and resilient.

For Om Power Transmission, the immediate opportunity lies in executing the Bhavnagar project on schedule. If delivered efficiently, it could strengthen the company’s credentials for similar underground cabling projects as utilities continue upgrading distribution networks across the country.
