Mumbai, June 1:Petrol and diesel prices remained broadly unchanged across India’s major metro cities and state capitals on Monday, with only minor revisions reported in select locations. While New Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad saw no change in fuel rates, Jaipur, Noida and Thiruvananthapuram recorded modest increases. Bengaluru, meanwhile, registered the sharpest decline in both petrol and diesel prices among the tracked cities, highlighting the continued impact of state-level taxes and local levies on retail fuel prices.
State-owned fuel retailers on May 25 raised petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time in 10 days, as soaring crude oil prices continued to squeeze their marketing margins. Petrol prices were increased by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel prices were hiked by ₹2.71 per litre.
Moreover, India has reduced export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for the fortnight beginning June 1, as part of its regular review mechanism linked to international crude and fuel prices. The export duty on petrol has been cut to ₹1.5 per litre, while diesel and ATF export duties have been set at ₹13.5 per litre and ₹9.5 per litre, respectively. There has been no change in excise duties on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption.
The move is expected to provide some relief to refiners and fuel exporters amid heightened volatility in global energy markets following recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Export duty rates are reviewed every fortnight based on average international prices of crude oil and refined fuels, allowing the government to adjust levies in line with changing market conditions.
Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained largely stable across major Indian cities on Monday, though select state capitals and urban centreswitnessed marginal revisions. New Delhi and Kolkata saw no change, with petrol continuing to retail at ₹102.12 per litre and ₹113.47 per litre, respectively. Despite the minor fluctuations, fuel prices remained elevated across most cities, reflecting the impact of local taxes and transportation costs on retail fuel rates.

Diesel prices were largely unchanged across India’s major metropolitan centres on Monday, with New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai reporting no revisions at ₹95.20, ₹99.82 and ₹97.83 per litre, respectively.
