Mumbai, June 5: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major cities and state capitals on Friday. While Jaipur recorded the steepest increase in both petrol and diesel rates, Patna saw the sharpest decline. Fuel prices in key cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad were mostly unchanged or witnessed marginal adjustments, reflecting a relatively stable retail fuel environment despite recent fluctuations in global crude oil prices and currency movements.
State-owned fuel retailers on May 25 raised petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time within a span of 10 days, as elevated crude oil prices continued to squeeze their marketing margins. Petrol rates were raised by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel prices were increased by ₹2.71 per litre.
Petrol Prices

New Delhi, Chandigarh, Noida and Thiruvananthapuram saw no change in fuel rates, while Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad recorded modest increases of 3-4 paise per litre. Jaipur witnessed the sharpest rise among major cities, with petrol prices climbing 44 paise to ₹113.10 per litre.
On the other hand, a few cities saw slight relief for consumers. Petrol prices in Chennai fell 12 paise to ₹107.75 per litre, while Gurgaon and Lucknow recorded minor declines. Patna registered the steepest cut, with prices dropping 87 paise to ₹113.37 per litre. Hyderabad remained the costliest among the listed cities at ₹115.73 per litre, closely followed by Thiruvananthapuram at ₹115.49, while Chandigarh continued to offer the cheapest petrol at ₹101.54 per litre. The daily revisions reflect changes in international crude oil prices and currency movements, along with state-specific taxes and local levies that create significant price variations across cities.
Diesel Prices

Rates in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Lucknow were unchanged from the previous day, reflecting relative stability in retail fuel pricing despite fluctuations in global crude oil markets.
Among the cities that saw revisions, Jaipur recorded the steepest increase, with diesel prices rising 42 paise to ₹98.17 per litre, while Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru registered modest gains. On the downside, Patna saw the sharpest cut, with diesel prices falling 84 paise to ₹99.36 per litre. Smaller declines were also reported in Chennai, Gurgaon and Thiruvananthapuram. Thiruvananthapuram continued to have the highest diesel price among the listed cities at ₹104.31 per litre, followed by Hyderabad at ₹103.82, while Chandigarh remained the cheapest at ₹89.47 per litre. Variations in diesel prices across cities are primarily driven by differences in state taxes, local levies and transportation costs, in addition to movements in international crude oil prices and currency exchange rates.
