Mumbai, July 1: Fuel prices remained largely steady across metros and state capitals on Wednesday. Petrol and diesel rates were steady in key cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad, while a handful of locations, such as Bengaluru and Noida, recorded modest price increases. Hyderabad continued to boast the highest petrol price among major cities, while Thiruvananthapuram topped the diesel price chart.
India’s largest private fuel retailer, Nayara Energy, has slashed petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel prices by ₹3 per litre across its nationwide network of more than 7,000 retail outlets, marking its first fuel price reduction in over two years, PTI reported. The move comes after global crude oil prices retreated following easing tensions in the Middle East and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The price cut comes even as state-run fuel retailers have kept pump prices unchanged, making Nayara the first major retailer to respond to the recent decline in crude oil prices. Brent crude has fallen sharply from its conflict-driven highs after concerns over supply disruptions eased.
Petrol and diesel prices at state-run fuel retailers remained unchanged with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) not announcing any revisions to pump prices.
To be sure, global crude oil prices rose after Iran ruled out meeting U.S. envoys, denting hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough and raising fresh concerns over supply risks in the Middle East despite a fragile ceasefire.
The gains came after Tehran said it would not hold direct talks with U.S. representatives. Although shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has partially resumed, uncertainty over future negotiations has kept traders cautious, given the waterway’s importance for global oil supplies.
Here’s a detailed look at the latest petrol and diesel prices across Indian cities.
