Mumbai, July 7: Fuel prices remained largely unchanged across India’s metro cities and most state capitals on Tuesday as oil marketing companies kept retail rates steady despite softer global crude oil prices. While cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai saw no change in petrol and diesel prices, Bengaluru witnessed a reduction in both fuels, whereas Jaipur recorded marginal increases.
Oil prices rose modestly on Tuesday as investors shifted their focus from easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East to the outlook for global supply and demand. Brent crude futures gained about 0.5% to trade above $72 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose around 0.4% to nearly $69 a barrel.
The market has largely priced out the geopolitical risk premium that had driven oil prices sharply higher during the Iran conflict, with attention now turning to rising output from major producers. OPEC+ is set to increase production by 188,000 barrels per day from August, while the UAE’s crude output climbed to its highest level since April 2020 in June. Saudi Arabia has also slashed the official selling price of its flagship Arab Light crude for Asian buyers for August, marking its steepest price cut in more than two decades amid growing competition.
Despite the easing supply concerns, traders remain cautious as uncertainty lingers over the Strait of Hormuz. Although oil shipments have resumed through the vital waterway, tanker traffic remains below normal levels following recent disruptions, keeping some risk premium in prices.
Going forward, market participants are expected to closely monitor demand trends, particularly in China, the world’s largest crude importer, to assess whether rising supply can be absorbed without putting renewed pressure on prices.
Petrol Prices
Petrol prices remained largely unchanged across India’s metro cities and most state capitals on Tuesday, reflecting stability in domestic fuel rates despite easier global crude oil prices. Rates in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Noida, Gurgaon, Lucknow, Patna, Bhubaneswar and Thiruvananthapuram were unchanged from the previous day.
A few cities, however, witnessed marginal revisions. Petrol prices in Bengaluru were cut by ₹0.86 per litre to ₹110.82, while Jaipur saw an increase of ₹0.53 per litre to ₹113.19. In Chandigarh, prices edged up by ₹0.03 to ₹101.54 per litre. Among the major metros, Kolkata continued to have the highest petrol price at ₹113.51 per litre, followed by Mumbai at ₹111.21, while New Delhi remained the cheapest at ₹102.12 per litre.
Diesel Prices
Diesel prices remained unchanged across most Indian metro cities and state capitals on Tuesday, with oil marketing companies maintaining retail fuel rates despite movements in international crude prices. Prices were steady in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Noida, Gurgaon, Lucknow, Patna, Bhubaneswar and Chandigarh.
Among the few revisions, Bengaluru recorded the sharpest decline, with diesel prices falling ₹0.79 per litre to ₹98.77, while Jaipur saw an increase of ₹0.47 per litre to ₹98.25. Thiruvananthapuram witnessed a marginal ₹0.01 cut, bringing the price to ₹104.40 per litre. Hyderabad continued to have the highest diesel price among the major cities at ₹105.03 per litre, whereas Chandigarh remained the cheapest at ₹89.47 per litre.
