Mumbai, June 10: Fuel rates remained largely steady across metros and state capitals on Tuesday as prices in New Delhi, Kolkata and several other major cities remained unchanged, with Patna recording the steepest increase in both petrol and diesel prices. Chennai, on the other hand, was among the few metros to see a decline in fuel rates.
State-owned fuel retailers on May 25 raised petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time in 10 days, as a sharp rise in global crude oil prices continued to squeeze fuel marketing margins.
Crude oil prices climbed on Wednesday as the Middle East flared up again with fresh hostilities breaking out and raising concerns over potential supply disruptions. Brent crude futures rose 0.6% to $92 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained the same to $88.8. The increases came after the United States launched fresh strikes on Iran, stoking fears of a wider conflict in the region and dimming hopes of a diplomatic resolution.
Investors remain focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global oil supplies. Experts noted that markets may not yet be fully pricing in the risk of a major disruption to energy flows, suggesting further volatility could lie ahead if tensions continue to escalate.
Petrol Prices

Petrol prices across major cities were largely stable on Tuesday. New Delhi, Kolkata and Chandigarh saw no change in fuel rates, while Mumbai recorded a slight increase of 3 paise per litre to ₹111.21. Chennai was among the few metros to see a decline, with petrol prices easing by 24 paise to ₹107.77 per litre.
Patna saw the sharpest increase, with petrol prices rising by 89 paise to ₹114.24 per litre. Jaipur and Bhubaneswar also saw modest gains, while prices in Lucknow, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Gurugram edged lower. Hyderabad continued to have one of the highest petrol prices among major cities at ₹115.72 per litre, followed closely by Thiruvananthapuram at ₹115.41 and Patna at ₹114.24. The variation in fuel prices across cities is primarily driven by differences in state-level taxes, dealer commissions and local levies.
Diesel Prices

Diesel prices remained largely stable across major cities on Tuesday. Rates in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Hyderabad remained unchanged from the previous day, while Chennai saw a 20-paise reduction to ₹99.58 per litre. Small declines were also recorded in Gurugram, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram.
Patna saw the sharpest rise, with diesel prices climbing 84 paise to ₹100.20 per litre. Bhubaneswar and Jaipur recorded modest gains of 8 paise each, while Noida recorded a 17-paise increase. Thiruvananthapuram continued to have the highest diesel price among the cities tracked at ₹104.22 per litre, followed by Hyderabad at ₹103.82 and Bhubaneswar at ₹100.60. Differences in diesel prices across states largely reflect variations in value-added tax (VAT), local levies and transportation costs.
