Mumbai, June 18: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely stable across major metro cities on Thursday even as global crude oil prices declined. Fuel rates in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai held steady. This shows state-run oil marketing companies maintaining benchmark retail prices amid declining prices in the energy market.
However, several state capitals and satellite cities saw marginal revisions. Gurgaon saw the steepest increase in both petrol and diesel prices, while Jaipur, Noida and Thiruvananthapuram also saw marginal hikes. Prices eased in Bhubaneswar and Lucknow.
Oil prices fell for a fourth straight session on Thursday after the United States and Iran signed an interim peace agreement aimed at ending their conflict.
Brent crude futures slipped over 2% to $77.8 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell over 2% to $74.8. Both benchmarks have lost more than 10% since the peace framework was first announced earlier this month.
Petrol Prices
Petrol prices remained steady across four major metros on Thursday, with rates holding at ₹102.12 per litre in New Delhi, ₹113.51 in Kolkata, ₹111.18 in Mumbai and ₹107.77 in Chennai. Other major cities such as Bengaluru also saw no change, showing stability in retail rates despite decline in international crude oil prices.
Gurgaon saw the steepest increase, with petrol prices rising 48 paise to ₹103.17 per litre, followed by Jaipur, where rates climbed 36 paise to ₹112.66 per litre. Marginal increases were also seen in Noida, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Patna. Prices declined in Bhubaneswar by 41 paise to ₹108.81 per litre and in Lucknow by 16 paise to ₹101.89 per litre. Such changes are due to variations in local taxes, transportation costs and dealer commissions, even when oil marketing companies keep benchmark fuel prices unchanged.

Diesel Prices
Diesel prices remained unchanged across India’s four major metros on Thursday, with rates holding at ₹95.20 per litre in New Delhi, ₹99.82 in Kolkata, ₹97.83 in Mumbai and ₹99.55 in Chennai. Other major cities such as Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Hyderabad also saw no change in retail diesel prices, indicating continued stability in fuel rates despite fluctuations in global crude oil markets.
Among cities that witnessed revisions, Gurgaon recorded the sharpest increase, with diesel prices rising 47 paise to ₹95.83 per litre, while Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram and Noida saw modest increases. On the other hand, diesel prices declined by 40 paise in Bhubaneswar to ₹100.52 per litre and by 19 paise in Lucknow to ₹95.36 per litre. The variations reflect changes in local taxes, transportation costs and dealer commissions, which can lead to city-specific price movements even when state-run fuel retailers keep benchmark fuel prices largely unchanged.
