Mumbai, June 25: Petrol and diesel prices across major metro cities and state capitals remained unchanged on Thursday. This goes on to show a prolonged phase of stability in retail fuel rates. State-run oil marketing companies kept pump prices steady, with no revisions reported across key urban centres, even as global oil prices continued their slide.
To be sure, global oil prices extended their decline on Thursday as easing geopolitical risk in the Middle East and a steady flow of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz pointed to improving global supply conditions. Brent crude drifted lower toward pre-conflict levels as markets continued to price in the gradual restoration of oil shipments through the key shipping route following a preliminary U.S.-Iran peace agreement.
According to reports, tens of millions of barrels of crude have moved through the Strait in recent days as vessel traffic normalises. The improvement in flows has shifted sentiment toward a potential near-term supply surplus, with traders increasingly focused on fundamentals rather than geopolitical risk premiums that had previously driven prices sharply higher.
The easing of supply concerns has weighed on crude benchmarks, which have now retreated significantly from their wartime peaks, even as analysts caution that full normalisation of shipping routes and energy infrastructure could take time.
